Chapter 15
In Ethan’s office, Mason immediately spotted the advertising proposal on the desk, covered in handwritten notes. He recognized Charlotte’s handwriting.
Had she already started working for Ethan so quickly?
His heart felt crushed by a massive stone, making it hard to breathe.
No, he absolutely wouldn’t allow Charlotte to work for Ethan Reed.
She was his wife, his advertising director. He would never let her go to someone else.
If she would just come back, he’d do anything she wanted.
Besides, he was only having some fun–why did she have to make such a big deal of it?
“You wanted to see me, Mr. Sullivan?”
Ethan’s voice came from the doorway. Mason looked up, his gaze cold and sharp.
Ethan met his stare with equal intensity. Their eyes locked, tension crackling between them like fire.
“Where’s Charlie? I need to see her.”
“Sorry, Charlie doesn’t want to see you.”
“You call her Charlie too?”
Mason was enraged. He rushed forward, grabbing Ethan’s collar. “Ethan, don’t think you can steal her away just because we’re having a fight. Let me tell you, Charlie is my wife! She’ll always stand by me!”
Oh? Is that so?”
than smirked, mocking him: “From what I understand, you’re divorced. She has absolutely nothing to do with you anymore!”

Mason froze for a few seconds, his grip on Ethan’s collar loosening. “I just want to see Charlie. I never meant to divorce her for real. Let her come out. I need to talk to her.”
“I told you, she doesn’t want to see you.”
Ethan looked up, his cold eyes filled with frost. “You should know her temperament. When she says she doesn’t want to see you, she absolutely won’t.”
“Ethan, what you’re doing is taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable position, you know that?”
Mason contained his anger, barely restraining himself from punching Ethan.
“I’m taking advantage? Tsk.” Ethan curled his lips, shaking his head repeatedly. “Mason, have you no shame? Don’t forget–you cheated. You approved her resignation for that girl. And now you’re accusing me of taking advantage?”
“I never saw her resignation letter. I thought it was someone else’s. If I had known it was hers…”

wouldn’t have made Charlotte a human target, wouldn’t have let her be harassed without intervening, wouldn’t have caused her to jump from the second floor, nearly becoming crippled!”
Ethan’s words hit like hammer blows.
The pain began to throb in his heart. Only now did Mason realize what he had done to Charlotte these past days.
For Sophia, he had hurt Charlotte so deeply. Had he gone mad?
“Leave. Charlie’s leg hasn’t healed. Seeing you would only make it worse.”
“Ethan, please. I’m begging you.”
Mason actually used the word “begging” with Ethan Reed–a word that had never existed in his vocabulary.
But now for Charlotte, he said it.
“Just let me see Charlie once. Let me talk to her. I’ll even kneel if you want! I admit I’ve done many things to hurt her lately, but I realize my mistake now. At least let me apologize to her face.”
Ethan narrowed his eyes, catching a glimpse of tears in Mason’s eyes.
After knowing each other for so many years, this was a first.
“Tonight I’m taking her to a charity auction. If you want to see her, wait there.”
“Thank you. Ethan! Really, thank you!”
Mason left, elated. Ethan frowned, feeling he must be crazy.
They were mortal enemies, and he was pursuing Charlotte himself. Why had he softened toward Mason?
But this was good–giving Charlotte a chance to clarify her feelings.
Otherwise, her heart would never open to him.
