Chapter 90
“Our suggestion is that, in the limited time your wife has left, you take her out to see the world and let her enjoy her final days to the fullest.“}
Upon hearing this, Victor abruptly stood up.”
Ignoring the calls from my parents and the doctors, he scooped me up in his arms and walked away without a word. No one knew where he was going, nor did anyone understand what he intended to do.”
It wasn’t until the yacht set sail again that I realized, Victor had brought me back to the Snake Island Research Institute. To my surprise, the research here was still ongoing, but all the researchers had been replaced.
As for the original researchers had now become the test subjects.
Among them was Clara, who had attempted to escape but had been recaptured. She was now locked inside a glass isolation chamber.\
Her facial features had already been transformed into those of a snake. Her nostrils had shifted to her forehead and her legs had been sewn together into a short, thick snake–like tail, giving her a grotesque appearance.
The moment Clara saw me, she lunged forward excitedly. ”
The glass chamber was soundproof, but I could still make out her words from the movement of her lips.
She was begging me. She said, “Eve, please… have mercy. Kill me.”
I simply turned my face away indifferently because I was not her sister and I would never feel an ounce of mercy for her.
I had long since become a cold–blooded creature, devoid of emotions, even toward my own parents and husband. Even if they were to die right in front of me, my heart wouldn’t stir in the slightest. Let alone for Clara.
Meanwhile, the researchers who had once experimented on me were now barely recognizable as human. They had been thrown into a pit of snakes.<
Every bit of suffering they had inflicted upon me was now being returned to them a hundred fold.}
Victor spoke indifferently, “Once their bodies are on the verge of collapse, send them to the python’s as feed.”
After leaving the laboratory, Victor took me back to the yacht.
stood o
He held me tightly in his arms as we stood on the deck, gazing out at the sea. “Eve, I’ve almost avenged everything for you. Are you satisfied with the fate of those researchers and Clara?”
I flicked my tongue, staring at the moon on the horizon, feeling incredibly drowsy.
1
Watching my eyelids droop lower and lower, Victor’s voice softened, tinged with a choked sob.<
“Eve, although our marriage was arranged, I fell for you the first time we met. I loved the way you played the piano and I adored the heavenly sound of your singing.”
Season after season of remorse, like a daily meal, had long since dulled my ears. None of my parents‘ guilt and Victor’s regret stirred even the faintest ripple in my heart anymore.
Even now, as he buried his face against my neck, his body trembling with sobs, I remained unmoved.
ง
“I was a fool,” he choked out. “I thought that after returning from Snake Island, you would change. We could start over, live a good life and have many children together. But I never realized, it was all Clara’s scheme and her carefully laid trap.”
His fingers tightened around me, his voice breaking.
“I should have known. From the moment I first saw you, I liked you. You were so pure, untouched by the filth of the world. And yet, I let myself be deceived by Clara. I pushed you into the abyss myself.”
“Eve, the person you should hate most is me. If I hadn’t sent you to Snake Island, none of this would have happened. Clara wouldn’t have had the chance to destroy you.“}
I didn’t answer. I didn’t need to.
Because at that moment, something strange was happening.”
My body was growing warmer. Heat crept through me, inch by inch, like a long–lost sensation of human warmth returning.”
As my temperature continued to rise, I felt increasingly drowsy.”
“Eve, just have a good sleep. Your life was meant to be a brilliant flower, yet it bloomed only for a fleeting moment before withering away. This is all my fault.“”
Victor whispered gently into my ear, “Once everyone who has hurt you has gone to hell, I will come to be with you. Eve, wait for me, okay?”
In the final moments of my life, it felt as if I had become human again.”
Even if it was only for a fleeting minute, I regained a brief sense of reason and emotion.
3:44PM & .
I slowly sat up, my movements weak yet deliberate. Under Victor’s gaze, filled with both overwhelming joy and heart–wrenching sorrow, I slowly reached up and removed the wedding ring from my finger.”
“Eve, you remember now, don’t you? You remember that we made these rings for each other with our own hands. They’re important, right?”
Hearing Victor’s desperate cries, I nodded slowly, yet firmly.
Then, amidst his tears of joy, I placed the wedding ring, the symbol of our love and marriage, back into Victor’s palm.” Victor wept and laughed at the same time, like a child who had done something wrong. His voice was both anxious and aggrieved: “Eve, why are you returning the ring to me? Are you angry, or do you want me to put it back on your finger?“”
But I said nothing. I only took a slow step backward before turning around without hesitation and leaping into the vast ocean.”
;
Though I could no longer speak, I had to use this resolute act to tell Victor that after enduring half a year of darkness on that island, I would never wait for him again.”
(The End)!!
