Chapter 80
My mother’s eyes were bloodshot with rage as she grasped Clara’s neck with both hands, squeezing tightly. “You heartless monster! Every day, you slandered Eve in front of us, making us feel guilty for you and forcing us to turn against our own daughter!“&
“You deliberately ruined Eve’s wedding by showing up naked, then tricked me into giving you a million as ‘emotional damages. I originally intended that money to be your dowry, yet you used it to nearly buy my daughter’s life!“}
Clara could barely breathe, yet tears still streamed down her face as she weakly protested, “No… I didn’t… it wasn’t me…“”
“Victor, Dad, Mom, I don’t know anything. I didn’t do anything. I don’t even know these people. I have no idea why they would help my sister slander me.”
Victor curled his lips into a cold smile. “So what you’re saying is that these researchers were bribed by Eve to stage this whole act just to frame you?”
Hearing this, Clara’s eyes turned red with grievance. “Victor, that’s not what I meant. No matter what, I would never doubt my own sister.“”
“I never questioned what my sister went through. After all, it’s clear to all of us that something terrible happened to her. But these researchers are slandering me without evidence just to escape responsibility. Please, don’t fall for their tricks!“}
“Whether it’s slander or not, checking the transactions will tell us the truth.” Victor’s cold gaze locked onto Clara’s face, capturing every subtle change in her expression. “After all, a million transfer isn’t a small amount.“”
Clara’s pupils trembled and after a brief struggle, she forced out a response. “You’re right. I’ll go to the yacht to get my phone and call the bank for proof.”
The moment she stepped away, one of Victor’s bodyguards came running over, panting. “Mr. Winters, Clara panicked and fled.”
“Let her run.“&
Victor’s tone was as cold as ice, devoid of any emotion. “I’ve prepared a grand gift for her at sea.“}
Three days later, Victor, my parents and I arrived at the world’s top hospital for the most comprehensive medical examination.}
After reviewing all the test results, the doctors held a three–hour–long meeting. Finally, with heavy expressions, they called us into the room.
“Miss Rivers‘ condition is extremely poor,” one of them announced grimly. “Not only has her body undergone inhuman modifications, but there is not a single drop of human blood left in her system. Her organs won’t be able to function for much longer.“”
Hearing this, my parents collapsed into each other’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably. “Eve, it’s all our fault! If we hadn’t foolishly taken in that ungrateful Clara out of pity, you would have had a happy life. You would never have ended up in such a tragic state!”
Victor’s eyes were already red, but he forced back his tears in front of everyone. “Doctor, are you saying… my wife has no chance of recovering at all?”
The doctors let out heavy sighs, shaking their heads. “You still don’t understand. Forget about recovery. At this point, even surviving another year would be a miracle.“”
“Forcibly transforming a human body into that of a snake goes against the very laws of nature,” the doctor explained gravely. “What’s worse, their research was far from complete. Your wife’s current condition is like that of a battery–operated toy. Once the power runs out, she will shut down permanently.”
No matter how much he refused to accept reality, Victor’s lips trembled as he forced himself to ask, “Then… how much time does my wife have left?”
The doctors exchanged glances before one of them finally spoke. “With our current medical knowledge, we cannot give you a definitive timeline or any guarantees. This hospital is the best in the world, yet even we are powerless. I’m afraid no hospital in the world would be able to admit her for treatment.”
