Chapter 78
Hearing this, Victor gave me a deep look.”
After a brief moment of hesitation, he still chose to hand me over to the researchers.
“Then I’ll have to trouble you with my wife. Her condition is very abnormal, as if… she has undergone some kind of mutation. Please assess her physical condition immediately. If she is stable enough to be transferred, I will arrange for a helicopter to take her to the best hospital in the world at once.“>
I clung tightly to Victor’s sleeve, pleading with him not to let the researchers take me away.
But he pried my fingers off one by one. “Eve, be good. Once the examination is done, I’ll take you away.”
On the surface, the researchers gently took me from him and carried me into the examination room.
However, as soon as the door closed, they roughly threw me onto the floor, completely shedding their kind façade.
“Damn it! That bitch Clara tricked us!“}
“I never expected Eve to be Victor’s wife. He’s one of the richest men in the country. If it gets out that we experimented on his wife, none of us will survive!“}
The researchers exchanged glances and a ruthless determination flashed in their eyes.
“If Eve leaves here alive, all the research we’ve conducted on her will be exposed.”
They made their decision in an instant. One of them pulled out a large syringe and slowly approached me.
“This drug works similarly to realgar–it’s highly nourishing for humans but deadly poisonous to snakes. So even if you
die, no one will be able to trace it back to us.“}
“Don’t blame us for taking your life, blame your dear sister, Clara. If she hadn’t paid us a million dollars to use you for research, we’d have stuck to experimenting on snakes. We wouldn’t have dared to use a live human subject.“}
The researchers sneered sinisterly, then raised the syringe and aimed it at my temple.
Just as the needle pierced my skin, the examination room door was suddenly kicked open with immense force.\
Victor stood at the entrance, his face dark, his eyes brimming with murderous intent.”
The two researchers were so terrified that they dropped the syringe, spilling the eerie green liquid all over the floor.
Yet, they still tried to lie through their teeth. “Mr. Winters, you’re here. Your wife is in critical condition, she’s at risk of dying. We were just about to begin treatment, but we can’t guarantee we can save her.“}
Listening to their feeble excuses, Victor curled his lips into a chilling smile.
“Were you really about to treat my wife, or were you about to murder her?“}
Under the researchers‘ pale and terrified gazes, Victor pointed at the newly added pendant on my neck. “I’ve long wanted to find out what happened to my wife, so I placed a hidden camera on her.“}
“We’re sorry, Mr. Winters! We’re sorry, Madam!“}
The two researchers knelt before us, repeatedly kowtowing, their foreheads bleeding profusely yet refusing to stop. The arrogant, godlike demeanor they had when using me for their experiments was completely gone.

“It’s all Clara! She knew we were conducting live snake research on the island and lacked funding. So she gave us a million dollars and told us to use her sister for the experiments. She even said that Eve had no family left, so even if she died, no one would care!“}
My father grabbed Clara by the hair at the back of her head, yanking it fiercely before slapping her hard across the face multiple times. “You beast! Ungrateful wretch! If we hadn’t been kind enough to fund your way out of the mountains, you would’ve wasted your life there, probably sold off to marry and bear children!”
“We gave you a new life and this is how you repay us? Not only did you destroy our only daughter, but you even cursed our whole family to die!”
