Chapter 25 The Whip Crashed Down on Him
All Wayne wanted was to meet Master V.
But she still hadn’t shown up, and the longer he waited, the colder his expression grew.
Greta glanced at her watch and cautiously offered, “Mr. Hamilton, perhaps Master V got held up. No one really knows what she’s been up to. She’s been off the radar for three whole years.”
It was true. Master V’s disappearance had become the medical world’s biggest unsolved mystery. No one knew where she’d gone or why she’d vanished.
By the door, Danica stood quietly.
She rolled her eyes and thought, “Seriously? I’m right here. I showed up exactly as promised. You saw me walk in. Jennifer, Greta, Sophia, they’re all witnesses.”
But Wayne’s icy gaze didn’t thaw.
“I’ll go ahead and examine Jennifer,” Greta said with a smile, trying to ease the tension.

Twenty minutes later, Greta and Wayne were outside the room. Greta, in a crisp white silk blouse and black skirt, looked sharp and stunning. She faced Wayne with a calculated smile and said, “Based on the initial assessment, I believe Jennifer’s heart issue is an acquired defect, likely caused by an atrial septal defect and a persistent ductus arteriosus. It’s treatable with surgery.”

Wayne nodded slightly. “Any risks?”
Greta’s red lips curved into a sultry smile. “Depends on the procedure. But let’s exchange WhatsApps. That way, I can keep you updated.”
She pulled out her phone, clearly hoping for more than just a professional connection.
Danica hadn’t left. Watching from nearby, she couldn’t help the faint amusement in her eyes. She thought, “So that’s what this is. Greta’s not here for medicine. She’s here for him.”
What kind of spell did Wayne cast to have both of the Vance family’s girls chasing after him?
Before Wayne could even respond, a clear voice cut through the air. “Jennifer doesn’t have an acquired condition. She was born with it.”
Greta froze. She turned and saw Danica.
Wayne looked at Danica as well.
Danica stood tall and still. Her gaze met Wayne’s without flinching. “Stop wasting time,” she said. “Start searching for a donor. She’ll need a heart transplant.”
Greta’s face darkened. “Are you out of your mind? Are you questioning my diagnosis? Do you even have a medical degree?”
Wayne didn’t say a word. He just watched Danica and watched the way she carried herself, calm and self–assured, with a kind of quiet gravity that was hard to define.
“I’ve said what needs to be said,” Danica said, her voice calm. “Believe me or not, it’s your choice.” After that, she turned and walked away.
Behind her, Greta fumed. “She dropped out of school at sixteen! Who

does she think she is to question me? Mr. Hamilton, don’t listen to
her!”

Danica turned a corner, intending to leave the hospital but stopped in her tracks when she spotted Jennifer waiting for her.
Jennifer crossed her arms. “I heard you got Emelia to back you. So now Wayne can’t divorce you?”
She sneered. “As a woman, I honestly pity you. Wayne doesn’t love you. You couldn’t hold onto your husband, so you clung to his
grandmother. That’s pathetic.”
Danica met her condescending gaze with a cool smile. “Jennifer, the one who deserves pity is you. Wayne and I? We’re still married. You? You’ll always be the side piece who hides in the shadows. Look at you, you’re desperate.”
Jennifer’s face twisted in anger.
But then she smirked. “You think hiding behind Emelia makes you untouchable? Danica, you have no idea what’s coming. I’m going to teach you a lesson you won’t forget.”
With that, Jennifer turned and walked off.
Danica frowned. “What now?”
Moments later, a scream rang out from down the hallway. “Wayne! Something’s wrong!”
“What’s wrong?” Danica spun and ran back.
Sophia was panicking, clutching Wayne’s arm. “Wayne, Jenny was taken away!”

Wayne’s face went cold. “Taken? By who?”
“Your grandmother!” Sophia exclaimed. “She sent people to drag Jenny away!”
Wayne’s aura was cold.
Then Sophia spotted Danica and pointed at her. “It was her! Wayne, someone sent your grandmother a photo, one of you and Jenny dancing last night, practically glued together. Emelia went ballistic and sent people to grab Jenny. Who else could’ve sent that photo? It had to be Danica!”
Danica’s eyes stayed unreadable as she thought, “Someone sent Emelia a photo? I didn’t even know about it.”
Sophia went on, dramatic as ever. “She knew Emelia would protect her. Jenny’s heart can’t handle that kind of stress. Danica is trying to use Emelia to get rid of her!”
Wayne’s gaze sharpened as it locked onto Danica.
He stepped forward, towering over her.
“I didn’t do it,” Danica said, steady but soft.
Wayne’s voice was cold as he said, “You better pray Jennifer is fine.”
And just like that, he walked off.
Sophia threw Danica a smug look and followed him.
Danica stood frozen, face pale. He didn’t believe her.
And honestly? She looked like the most likely culprit.

She hadn’t even made it past the study door when she heard Emelia’s furious voice. “Jennifer, do you have no shame?! Wayne is married to Dani! That makes him your brother–in–law! And you’re sneaking around behind our backs like some mistress? You left him three years ago, and now you think you can waltz back in and pick up where you left off? You think the title of Mrs. Hamilton was just sitting here waiting for you? You’re selfish. And you’re disgusting!”
Inside, Jennifer was kneeling on the rug, her pretty face pale with fear. “Mrs. Hamilton, it’s not like that.”
Emelia slammed her palm on the desk. “I’ll give you one last chance. Leave Wayne. Go back overseas, and never come back.”
Jennifer trembled. Her voice quivered. “I’m sorry, but I can’t. I love Wayne. I want to be with him.”
Emelia’s hands shook with rage. “You have no shame! If your parents won’t discipline you, I’ll do it myself!”
Cordell silently stepped forward, offering her a whip. It was the Hamilton family’s old way of handling disgrace.
Without hesitation, Emelia raised it and struck.
Jennifer screamed.
The sound of leather against skin rang through the room. It was sharp, brutal, and bone–deep.
But it didn’t land on Jennifer. It landed on Wayne.
He had arrived and lunged forward, pulling Jennifer into his arms and
