Chapter 24 His Brilliant Junior
That unexpected message left Wayne briefly puzzled.
But he didn’t dwell on it. Putting his phone aside, he returned to reviewing the last few documents on his desk.
By the time he finished work, it was well past midnight. He stood and ) poured himself a glass of water, glancing over at the bed. Danica was
already fast asleep.
Just as he was about to return to the couch, Danica’s phone buzzed. It lit up with a message.
Wayne’s eyes lifted instinctively and then narrowed sharply.
The profile picture that had just lit up looked eerily familiar. It was almost identical D’s.
Without thinking, he strode over to the bed and reached for her phone.
But Danica shifted in her sleep, and her cheek brushed softly against
his hand.
Wayne froze mid–motion. “What the hell am I doing? That has to be a coincidence. There is no way that Danica is my genius junior. She’s just a pretty face. Nothing more.”
Just then, he felt a soft pressure against his palm. Danica, half–asleep, nuzzled against his hand like a sleepy kitten.
His eyes settled on her face. Under the warm glow of the bedside lamp, her features looked gentle and soft. A few strands of her black hair clung to her neck and lips, contrasting sharply against her skin and

rose–tinted cheeks. The combination was almost too vivid to look at.
Sometimes, beauty alone could be lethal, especially to men. Wayne found himself staring for a beat too long.
But he quickly pulled his hand back, straightened up, and turned away. He believed that he would never be swayed by a woman’s looks.
He’d seen his fair share of beautiful faces and wouldn’t fall for this one.
He returned to the couch and closed his eyes.

The next morning, by the time Danica woke up, Wayne was already gone. She glanced at the clock and shot upright, shouting, “Damn. I’m going to be late!”
They were supposed to meet at Charhelm Hospital at nine. And with the stormy look Wayne had worn last night, she could pretty much write her own doom if she failed to show.
She rushed through her morning routine and flew down the stairs, only for Emelia to call out from the dining room. “Dani, you’re up! Wayne left already. Come sit with me and have some breakfast.”
“Sorry, I’m late! I gotta get going!” Danica yelled as she bolted out the door.
Emelia watched her go with a sigh. “Poor thing, she didn’t even stop for a bite.”
Just then, the butler, Cordell, stepped in holding a sealed envelope. “Mrs. Hamilton, someone just delivered this. Said it was for your hands only.”
“What is it?”

Emelia took the envelope, tore it open, and a photo fluttered out.

Danica arrived at Charhelm Hospital just before nine and walked into the patient room, only to be greeted by familiar faces.
Wayne was already there, along with Jennifer and Sophia.
Jennifer brightened immediately. “Wayne, do you think Master V will really come today?”
Jennifer had grown up with a heart condition. She had two lifelong wishes, one, to be healthy; and two, to marry Wayne and become Mrs. Hamilton. She fully intended to make both come true.
Wayne nodded. “She’ll be here.”
Sophia, notebook and pen in hand, bounced excitedly. “Finally! I get to meet the legendary miracle doctor! I’m her fan, and I’m getting her autograph for sure!”
She craned her neck, peering toward the hallway. “Where is she? Master V… Danica?”
She’d spotted Danica walking in.
Wayne and Jennifer turned to look too. Jennifer blinked in surprise. “Danica? What are you doing here?”
Sophia gave her a full look of disgust. “You seduced Keyon last night. Don’t think I’ve forgotten. I’ll deal with you later. Right now, we’re waiting for Master V, and we don’t have time for your drama. Get lost!”
Wayne’s gaze landed on Danica. Though he didn’t say anything, his slight frown and silence made it clear that he wasn’t exactly thrilled to see her either.

She looked like trouble walking in.
Danica didn’t seem fazed. Instead, she smiled, a hint of mischief in her eyes as she blinked sweetly at all three of them. “Oh, I know you’re waiting for Master V.”
Jennifer snapped, “Then what are you still doing here?”
Danica straightened her shoulders and, with a slow, teasing smile, said, “You’re looking at…”
Before she could finish, a new voice cut in. “Danica? What are you doing here?”
Danica turned and saw Greta.
Greta was the daughter of Dylan, the youngest of Moriah’s three sons: Davon, Rodney, and Dylan.
Greta was exceptional and even more accomplished than Jennifer. With a PhD in medicine, overseas training, and a résumé that included several major surgeries, Greta had a strong sense of pride to match.
She and Jennifer were the shining stars of the Vance family.
And they had one thing in common. They both looked down on Danica.
Jennifer stepped toward her. “Greta? What are you doing here?”
Greta walked confidently up to Wayne and smiled. “Good morning, Mr. Hamilton. I’m here on behalf of Master V.”
Danica blinked and thought, “What?”
Greta went on. “I’ve been appointed as her assistant. I’m here to help with Jennifer’s treatment.”

Danica suddenly remembered. Jimmy had mentioned sending her an assistant, someone eager and hardworking, wanting real experience.
Danica thought, “So… that assistant is Greta? Small world.”
At Greta’s words, Jennifer gave Greta a warm smile. “Wow, it’s been two years. I can’t believe you’re already working for Master V.”
Sophia leaned in with a curious grin. “Greta, is Master V a woman? What does she look like? I’m dying to know!”
Greta’s eyes sparkled with admiration. “She’s a legend in the medical world. All of us in the field look up to her. I’ve been trying to get close to her for years. Becoming her assistant was a dream come true. I haven’t even met her in person yet.”
Sophia gasped. “Still, that’s amazing. Wow, the Vance family heiresses are seriously impressive. Well, except…”
She turned to Danica with a sneer. “You’re part of the Vance family
too. Why are you such a letdown? You’re worlds apart from Greta and Jenny.”
She spread her arms wide for emphasis.
Greta added, “Danica, I heard what happened. Just divorce Mr.
Hamilton already and head back to the countryside. Stop embarrassing the Vance family.”
Jennifer giggled. “Come on, Greta. She dropped out at sixteen. Why waste your breath?”
Danica said nothing. What could she even say to that?
Wayne, still unreadable, glanced at Greta and asked calmly, “Where’s Master V? We agreed to meet at nine. She’s late.”
