Chapter 23 Borrow His White Shirt
Wayne had just come out of the shower, dressed in a black silk robe. His damp hair clung slightly to his forehead, and a thin mist still lingered on his skin, making him look far younger and more striking than his usual sharp, suited self.
Danica glanced at him, thinking, “He’s undeniably blessed with good looks.”
Just then, his phone rang, a smooth, melodious ringtone breaking the quiet. Wayne walked over to answer. It was a call from Todd.
“Mr. Hamilton,” Todd said, “Master V has agreed to meet you at Charhelm Hospital tomorrow.”
Wayne’s face remained unreadable. “She bailed last time after all that cryptic build–up. I want to see what kind of person she really is.”
Danica suddenly felt a chill creep down her neck.
Wayne had been holding a grudge ever since Master V had stood him up. And with his no–nonsense personality, anyone who tried to play games with him usually didn’t walk away unscathed.
He clearly planned to get a look at her, up close.
Just then, Wayne turned and gave Danica a look. “Aren’t you going to shower?”
“Yeah.” Danica darted into the bathroom.
Wayne frowned and hung up. Master V was proving to be as much of a headache as Danica.

He rubbed his hair dry with a towel and opened a file on the table, diving back into work.
But before long, a soft voice called out from the bathroom. “Wayne? Wayne!”
Danica was calling his name.
Her tone was soft and sweet, completely unlike her usual sharp- tongued self.
Wayne got up and walked to the bathroom door. “What is it?”
The door creaked open just a crack. Through the gap peeked one of Danica’s dewy eyes and half of her flushed face, the steam from her shower giving her forehead a rosy glow.
“Can I borrow a shirt?” she asked.
“Didn’t they prepare pajamas for you?” Wayne asked.
“They did.”
She held up a black lacy underwear and said, “But if you’d like to see this on me, I can put it on right now.
Wayne looked at her, speechless.
Of course. That must be Emelia’s idea of “spicing things up” between the newlyweds.
Wayne pulled open the wardrobe, grabbed a white shirt of his, and tossed it at her. “You don’t have the figure for that outfit anyway. Don’t embarrass yourself.”
Deliberately, he flung the oversized shirt straight at her face, draping it completely over her head.

Danica yanked it off, glared at him, and then smacked the lacy pajamas right into his face. “If my figure’s not good enough, then you wear it!”
Wayne blinked, still speechless.
With a loud slam, Danica shut the door in his face, leaving him with a gust of wind and her lingering sass.
Wayne had been annoyed before, but now he couldn’t help the amused curve tugging at his lips.
He lifted the lacy underwear with two fingers, studying it. He thought, “Lace, ribbons… Grandma has really gone all out.” He tossed it straight into the trash without a second thought.
Then he sat back down and continued working. Minutes later, he heard the bathroom door open with a soft click. Danica stepped out.
Wayne glanced up. She was wearing his white shirt. The oversized shirt made her frame look even more delicate and dainty. The hem fell just above her knees, revealing her long legs.
Beneath the crisp fabric, faint hints of her curves teased through, which was innocent yet enticing.
Wayne had to admit that he’d only been teasing earlier. Danica’s face and figure were just perfect.
Danica didn’t say a word to him. She had already dried her hair and was now sitting at the vanity, busy with her skincare routine. Skincare products crowded the tabletop as she dabbed creams and lotions onto her cheeks, filling the air with a soft, floral scent.
They’d been married for over three years, but Wayne had never onee shared a room with her. And to be fair, he hadn’t been with anyone else either. This was all new territory.

Watching her move around, tending to her skin like it was the most important thing in the world, he found it oddly fascinating.
Danica, sensing his gaze, turned her head.
Wayne didn’t look away fast enough, and their eyes met.
“What are you staring at?” she snapped. “Never seen a beautiful woman before?”
Wayne leaned back. “If you have time for skincare, you should also try reading something useful. No matter how pretty you make yourself, you’re still just eye candy.”
“Eye candy?” Danica fumed and thought, “Just wait. One day I’ll blind those arrogant eyes of yours.”
She ignored him, climbed into bed, and pulled the covers over herself.
Suddenly, Wayne’s phone buzzed.
He looked down and a message. Trevon from Brenton University had added him to a chat group.
There were three members: Trevon, Wayne, and a mysterious “D“, Wayne’s genius junior from university.
“D” had recently rejected his friend request.
Now they were in the same chat.
Trevon sent a welcome message, “Welcome to the legends of Brenton U! We’re launching a digital game and want our best to try it out first. Let’s see how fast you are.”
Wayne replied with a simple “OK.” So did D.

Trevon dropped the app link. Both Wayne and D tapped in and started the challenge.
Wayne finished in 10.4 seconds.
He glanced at D’s black profile icon. He was curious about how fast she would finish.
Trevon had once told Wayne that after he set the record, W kept challenging it again and again, almost matching his time. Back then, Wayne hadn’t quite believed it.
Then she rejected his friend request. He hadn’t given it much thought after that.
But now, by chance, they were pulled into the same group.
Another message popped up. Trevon had shared a screenshot and said, “Unbelievable! Both of you clocked 10.4 seconds! Absolute legends!”
Wayne’s eyes flickered as he thought, “She also finished in 10.4 seconds?”
No one had ever matched his speed, but D did it.
He smirked and tapped out a message.
Danica, sitting on the bed, had been watching too. She’d seen Wayne’s result and the group chat.
Then someone mentioned her. It was Wayne.
He tagged her and typed: “Why didn’t you friend me?”
Danica looked up at Wayne lounging on the sofa.
Wayne, eyes on his phone, was clearly waiting for a reply from W. He
had no idea that the so–called “eye candy” lying in bed was D.
Danica typed a reply.
Wayne got the message. It was just a few simple words, “You’re incredibly annoying.”
He stared at the screen for a second and then gave a soft chuckle.
He thought, “Annoying? How exactly? And more importantly… what did I do to get under her skin?”
