Chapter 8
Immediately, the paddle was swung down and raised again.
repeatedly, leaving Edward grimacing in pain.
Clutching the edge of the table, Edward gritted his teeth. The
veins on the backs of his hands bulged, and tiny beads of sweat
formed on his forehead.
Every stroke of the paddle caused him soul–piercing agony.
“Camilla, I’m sorry. I was so inconsiderate today. I mean it. I
won’t do it again.
“For old time’s sake, could you tell Grandpa to stop? This is
killing me. I don’t think I can bear it anymore.”
Someone nudged Jadeana, and she came to the Lockhart family.
“Are you really gonna sit there and do nothing while the farce
continues? Do you want our two families to become sworn
enemies? Camilla is part of your family. Is there really nothing
you can do about her?”
The Lockhart family exchanged glances and then came forward
to surround Camilla and force her to compromise.
But Camilla still wouldn’t change her mind. She admitted
William’s move put her in a tough spot, but no one–not even him–could manipulate her.
She insisted, “Over my dead body will I stay together with
Edward. If you beat him to death today, so be it. I wouldn’t give
a damn even if I ended up being a widow.”
Standing in place, she faced everyone, unflinching. Though they
were all against her, she refused to back down.
Meanwhile, Edward clutched the edge of the table, barely
keeping himself from collapsing to the floor. The one with the
paddle raised it high but couldn’t bring himself to strike again.
The housekeeper whispered, “Sir Paxton, should we continue?”
Camilla’s father Nolan Lockhart responded, “No. I’m Camilla’s
father, and I call it a day. I say we let this slide. But it mustn’t
happen again. If it does, I’ll give Camilla my full support in
getting a divorce at all costs.”
The Paxton family was relieved to hear this and immediately
took the paddle away. Nolan and the other members of the
Paxton family left the villa, leaving Camilla alone.
She went upstairs in anger, leaving the Paxton family
downstairs to deal with the mess.
Chapter 8
The Paxton family sat downstairs, waiting for their family
doctor Jeffrey Waid to come over to deal with Edward’s
wounds.
William said with a cold face, “What happened today has
brought shame upon this family. Edward, if Camilla insists on
getting a divorce, you’d better prepare for the consequences.
After all, you’ve damaged our family’s interests, and you aren’t
the only heir. Also, I don’t think you’re hit hard enough.
Someone, beat him again. It’s better that he stays bedridden for
weeks. It’ll shut Camilla up, making sure she can’t bring up the
divorce in the short term.”
Edward’s mother Amanda Jacquet ran toward William and
wrapped her arms around his leg, bursting into tears.
“William, Edward is your only grandson. Please don’t hit him
again. What if it causes some permanent damage? What
happened today wasn’t that serious to begin with. It’s Camilla
who insisted on making a big deal out of it. We were being
sincere enough. Now that the Lockhart family has agreed to let
it slide, please don’t hurt Edward anymore, alright?”
William rolled his eyes at her.
Then he pointed at her, snapping, “Shut up! You women always
go soft. Do you think he’ll ever learn his lesson without a proper

beating today? If we don’t beat him hard enough, Camilla won’t
let this slide. She’s tough to deal with. If we don’t deal with this
properly, she’ll use this to manipulate us forever. But if we give
him a good beating, it’ll stop her from asking for a divorce again
tomorrow. Otherwise, she’ll look bad.”
