Chapter 7
“Cami, you’re a nice young woman. Edward’s crazy enough to
believe his promise to Elijah is more important than you. I’ll beat
some senses into him today. Could you forgive him this time for
my sake?”
Yet, Camilla wouldn’t waver. She said, “Edward and I are
different people, and things between us won’t work out.
Besides, this isn’t the first time something like this has
happened. He’s had his chance. Now, I’m done with it. I want a
divorce.”
She still sounded as firm as ever.
The determined look on her face was impossible to ignore.
Edward met William’s warning gaze and had no choice but to
compromise for the bigger picture.
“Camilla, we’ve known each other since childhood and have
been together for years. You’ve always meant a lot to me. After
you warned me, I’ve already changed a lot. It’s just… Nico was
sick today, and it was late at night. That’s why I was so worried.
You know he’s Elijah’s only child. How could I let anything
happen to him?
“If it upsets you so much, I’ll never see them again. Aurora said
Nico was seriously ill today and kept crying, and I had to come
over. I swear–nothing has ever happened between us.””
As Camilla looked at him, she suddenly couldn’t tell if he was
playing dumb or really stupid. How could he not see that
Aurora’s every cheap trick screamed her crazy possession of
him?
All of a sudden, her head ached so much. She no longer wanted
to waste another second on them.
She reiterated, “I will get a divorce. No one gets to change my
mind. I’m not saying this in a fit of pique. I made this decision
based on serious consideration.”
Seeing how resolute she was, William realized he must take
some extreme measures.
He decided to resort to drastic action.
“Someone, bring the paddle here! Edward failed Cami on their
wedding night, and he disgraced the Paxton family. He deserves to be punished!”
Soon, several people pinned Edward against a table, and the paddle was aimed at his backside.
Chapter 7
“Cami, I’m sorry. On behalf of my family, I apologize to you
again. We will make things right for you today!” Turning to the
person holding the paddle, he said, “Beat Edward until Cami
says stop. If she doesn’t, then beat him to death. I’m an old man
already, and I’ll take the blame and turn myself in.”
As he said this, the Paxton family held Edward down, and the
paddle was raised high in mid–air.
The Lockhart family couldn’t stand it anymore and started to
persuade Camilla again.
“Camilla, we and the Paxton family have been friends for
generations. They’re very important to us. If Edward really gets
beaten today, he might end up being a cripple. It’ll ruin our
relationship with the Paxton family–we’ll be enemies even. No
matter what, we raised you up, right? Don’t be so selfish.”
Camilla clenched her fists tightly. She was surprised to see
William pull such a move.
Jadeana walked over to her, crouched beside her, tugged at her
sleeve, and cried.
“Camilla, please. Show some mercy, alright? Can’t you see how
thick that paddle is? Edward will be crippled indeed. I’m begging
you. Don’t bring up the divorce again, OK?”
Chapter 7
The Paxton family acted pitiful, whereas the Lockhart family
played the tough role, working together to talk Camilla out of it.
Yet, she kept silent.
Seeing this, William immediately said, “No one is allowed to
speak up for this brat. After what he did today, he deserves to
be punished. What are you waiting for? Beat him!”
