Chapter 24
“Let me be there for you. Be a witness if it comes to that. After all the crap they pulled, people deserve to see who they really are. Your family won’t stand up for you, but I will.”
Camilla felt touched. In moments like this, she was just glad to
have Daniela, especially when her family let her down.
Daniela continued, “If the Paxton family keeps blocking your
divorce, I’m taking you out every damn day to meet hot guys.
And I’ll tell everyone we’re just helping you blow off steam after
all their crap.”
Her words were a comfort to Camilla.
While they were still on the phone, someone outside kept
yelling, “Edward!” Camilla found the voice familiar.
She walked over to the window, phone still in hand, and looked
out. Sure enough, Aurora was at the front gate with Nicholas.
Stuart was standing in their way.
Then Aurora dropped to her knees with Nicholas, pleading. Camilla couldn’t hear what she was saying. Stuart made a call
and let them in.

Camilla turned to her phone. “Daniela, Aurora and her son are here again. They made it past the gate. I need to go check. Bye!”
She ended the call and hurried downstairs, almost breaking into
a run.
Stuart went pale when he saw her. He looked down, nervous.
“Mrs. Paxton, I… let me explain. She was on her knees, begging
and crying. Mr. Paxton told me to let them in. I wasn’t gonna let
them go upstairs. I figured I’d tell Sir Paxton and let someone
else deal with it,” he said.
Camilla nodded, glanced at him, then at the teary pair. She
sneered and sat down.
Then she asked the maid for a glass of red wine. She was going
to sit right there and see how the Paxton family would handle
this after their promise yesterday.
Calm and elegant, she sipped her wine. The maid started to
bring water to Aurora and Nicholas but caught Camilla’s look.
She turned around and took the tray back to the kitchen.
Time passed slowly. Still, no one from the family showed up.
Even walking, they would have arrived by now.
Aurora got down on her knees with Nicholas and begged,
Chapter 24
“Camilla, Edward wants to send us back to my hometown. That
place is nothing but pain for us. We don’t want to go. Please
don’t make us leave Crysston.”
Nicholas, only five or six, sobbed, “Camilla, please. I wanna stay.
Let me stay!”
The whole thing felt fake. It was hard to believe he hadn’t been
told exactly what to say.
Unfazed, Camilla looked down, finished her wine, then set the
glass on the table. Then she gave Stuart a slow smile.
He tensed right away, and a chill ran through him.
“Mrs. Paxton, I was wrong. I can get them out now. And I’ll make
sure security doesn’t let them back in. Is that okay?” he said,
flustered.
“So you did know what to do. Why did you even let them in?”
Camilla asked flatly.
She had been nice to the staff. But sometimes, they needed a
reminder of the rules.
Stuart wiped the sweat from his forehead, too scared to
respond.
Chapter 24
Just then, brakes screeched and heels clicked in the yard. Stuart
relaxed, certain it was a Paxton.
Jadeana swept in, with delicate makeup, a red trench coat, and a
Gucci bag slung over her arm.
“Camilla, you’re from a rich family. Couldn’t you handle this
yourself? Dragging me out here over something this petty? Now
everyone’s all worked up.“”
