Chapter 18
Her shouting echoed through the room, leaving Kieran deflated.
He backed into the corner like he wanted to disappear.
Seeing him like that made her angrier. “If you’ve got any guts,
you’ll call the Paxton family and tell them you’re backing me on
the divorce.”
But Kieran didn’t have the guts or the will.
He tried to calm things down. “Alright. Look, I’ll go with you.
We’ll show up, give Edward hell, and then make his family pay
- up. How’s that?”
After trashing the room, Camilla felt better. She took a breath
and said, “No. Don’t get in the way. Just call Jadeana and tell her
to get rid of Aurora and her son.”
She planned to sit back and let the two families tear each other
apart. That would cheer her up. “Edward won’t budge anyway.
So if the Paxton family starts turning on each other, even
better,” she thought.
Kieran figured that was simple. He pressed his hands together
and then called Jadeana.
Chapter 18
“Aurora showed up again to mess with my sister. So this is your
last warning. Get her and her son out of Camilla’s face. Just do
it.”
Jadeana had already fought with Edward about this earlier.
After she told William, he chewed her out.
Then the Paxton family had caught wind of what Camilla did at
the bar. They were now having a family meeting to figure out
how to handle it.
William suggested cutting things off with Aurora and Nicholas
for good. The Paxton family would cover their expenses, and if
Edward didn’t like it, he could pack his bags.
“Kieran, please don’t be mad,” Jadeana said softly over the
phone. “We always take your opinion seriously. It’s been taken
care of. It won’t happen again.”
She kept going, almost begging.
“We’re working on it, and Edward will apologize again and buy
Camilla a few gifts. Aurora won’t show up again, I swear. Are
you okay with that?”
Kieran’s face softened, but the second he caught Camilla’s glare,
his tone snapped back.
Chapter 18
“No. Your promises mean nothing. It’s always the same: ‘It won’t
happen again. But it does. We’ve compromised because the
families go way back, but we’re done letting you walk all over
Camilla.
“Edward has no clue and keeps messing up. And what, no one in
your house can fix it? You can’t send Aurora and her kid
somewhere else or stop Edward from seeing them? If this
happens again, we’re done. We won’t back down, even if things
blow up.”
With that, Kieran hung up. Then he looked at Camilla like he
was checking if it was enough.
She gave a satisfied nod.
Kieran let out a sigh of relief.
“Finally. It’s done. Just go home. You guys just got married, and
people are gonna talk if you don’t. I’m begging you. Stay with
the Paxton family for now, give it one last shot. If it still doesn’t
work, I’ll back you up once I get the CEO seat locked in.”
Camilla wasn’t buying it. She sneered, grabbed her bag, and
walked out of the office.
Out in the lounge, Daniela was nowhere to be seen. Camilla sent
her a message, then headed home.
Chapter 18
The house was brightly lit.
With a sinking feeling, Camilla stepped inside and saw William
and Jadeana in the front hall.
It looked like they had been waiting.
William gave a warm little wave. “Cami, come sit. I’ve been
waiting for you all night. Let’s play chess.”
Camilla’s heart jumped, but her face stayed calm. She walked
over, took a seat, and started the game.
