Chapter 17
He lunged forward, grabbed her phone, and tossed it aside,
forcing her to look at him.
She hadn’t gone to the pub for fun. She just wanted to get back
at them after that lecture.
The Lockhart family was against the divorce, and that stung. If
she had to deal with the fallout, then so would they.
The thought made her voice go sharp.
“He started this, so why can’t I hit back? Wouldn’t it be better if
we both just left each other alone? I talked to his family last
night, came ready to fight, and they didn’t even give me a half-
assed excuse. I was humiliated. You guys didn’t lift a finger to
help. So why should I stay married just for the two families‘
sake?
“He keeps going on about there’s nothing between him and
Aurora; it’s just Elijah’s last wish. Then, same here. That guy
earlier saw I was upset, came over, and we talked. That’s it.”
Her words were driving Kieran crazy. He sank into the couch
and just kept sighing.
Chapter 17
“Oh, for god’s sake! Could you not make this easier for
everyone? I don’t care if you’re out meeting guys. Just don’t do it
out in the open like that. Think about our reputation. Just give
me a break, yeah?”
Camilla curled her lip in a sneer. “My husband ditched me for
another woman on our wedding night. Did any of you care how
that looked for me? You didn’t check the group chat, right?
Aurora and her son showed up at my door in the morning.
“You’re lucky I even came out. If I’d snapped at home, I probably
would’ve gone live and let the internet judge. I even had the line
ready: ‘My husband ditched me in the middle of the night for a
widow, and now my family won’t let me divorce him. Any
comments?“”
Now that divorce was off the table, Camilla wasn’t about to let
both families have peace. After everything, that felt like the
least they deserved.
The mention of Aurora made Kieran snap. He pointed toward
the door, livid.
“The whole damn Paxton family is fucking useless. Not one of
them can handle a thing. Everything they promised us last night
was bullshit, huh?”
“And you guys just go along with whatever they say. No spine.
Chapter 17
Honestly, they are idiots if they ever take you seriously,”
Camilla remarked.
Kieran was shaking now. He yanked his phone from his pocket
to dial William.
“I’m calling the Paxton family and cussing them out. And could
you stop acting like we all stabbed you in the back? This
marriage happened because you two used to actually get along
and look good together. It’s not like we threw you to the
wolves.”
Camilla’s fists clenched at his words.
She shot back, “I said this was a bad idea before the wedding,
remember? Aurora didn’t become a snake yesterday. You’ve
always known what they had done and what she’s like. I said
no, and no one gave a damn. Now I’m trying to end it, and you
still won’t let me. And somehow this is all on me?”
Kieran met her glare and just wilted.
But Camilla wasn’t done. She grabbed whatever she could and
started chucking it, cursing as she stomped around the room.
“You pushed me into this marriage so you could keep your CEO
position. You’re the one benefiting. And now you talk to me like
this?
Chapter 17
“Honestly, I’d rather let Ethan and his family take over. Dealing
with Minnie would be better than putting up with your
bullshit.”
