Chapter 26 He Threw Her Off
“Wayne!” Emelia gasped, horrified.
At the doorway, Danica froze. She hadn’t expected him to throw himself in front of th
whip for Jennifer.
So it was true. Jennifer was the one he would protect openly.
Wayne faced Emelia, voice firm and defiant. “Grandma, that’s enough. If you want to punish someone, punish me. I’m the one who chose to be with Jennifer. She’s done nothing wrong. It’s all on me.”
Jennifer clung to his arm in an instant. “Please, Mrs. Hamilton, don’t hurt Wayne. If someone has to be punished, let it be me.”
They stood like a tragic pair of lovers, fated to be torn apart, and Emelia, the cruel matriarch, looked like the villain trying to split them up.
Danica’s chest tightened with a bitterness she couldn’t push away.
Emelia’s grip on the whip shook. Her voice trembled with fury. “Wayne, Dani’s your wife! Have you forgotten who sat by your side for three years while you were in a coma? You think this is how you repay her? Jennifer’s blinded you, and I’m going to snap you out of it!”
Her heartbreak turned into rage, and she raised the whip again.
“Grandma, stop!” Danica rushed forward, throwing herself between them.
But Emelia flared with emotion. “Dani, don’t be afraid! As long as I’m here, no one will lay a hand on you!”
Danica’s chest warmed. For the first time in a long time, she felt protected.

Then, Jennifer gasped. “Wayne… my heart hurts…”
Wayne turned. She clutched her chest, face twisted in pain. “Jenny!”
Danica instinctively stepped toward her. “Let me check her pulse.”
But before she could touch her, a large hand shot out and clamped around her wrist.
She looked up and was met with Wayne’s frigid eyes. “I don’t need your fake concern,” he said coldly.
Then, with a brutal twist, he threw her off. Danica stumbled, crashing sideways into the sharp edge of the desk.
Pain shot through her waist, and her eyes were instantly filled with tears.
Emelia lunged forward and pulled her into her arms. “Wayne, are you out of your mind? How dare you lay a hand on Dani?”
Cordell stepped between them. “Mr. Hamilton, this is crossing the line!”
Wayne’s eyes flicked back to Danica. Her pale face was now flushed and tear–streaked. She looked heartbreakingly fragile.
His hand twitched slightly at his side. Maybe he regretted it.
But before he could move, Jennifer swayed dramatically. “Wayne… I feel faint…”
She collapsed just as Wayne stepped forward, catching her effortlessly. “Get the car. We’re going to the hospital!” he barked, carrying her out in
his arms.
Danica glanced at Jennifer and caught the subtle shift. Just moments ago, Jennifer had seemed so delicate and helpless, but now she was cozily tucked against Wayne, flashing Danica a sly, victorious smile.

Jennifer had won this round without a doubt.
Emelia stomped her foot in rage. “Wayne, if you walk out that door, don’t bother coming back!”
The words had barely left her lips before she swayed and collapsed.
“Grandma!”
“Mrs. Hamilton!”
Danica calmly inserted the medical tools, her hand steady despite the storm still whirling in her chest. Emelia’s breathing evened out.
Cordell hovered anxiously. “Is she going to be fine?”
Danica gently pulled out the medical tool. “She’ll be fine. She just needs
rest.”
Cordell, however, was still fuming. “I don’t know what’s wrong with Mr. Hamilton. All he sees is Jennifer!”
Jennifer was the person Wayne would throw away everything for.
Danica winced as pain flared again in her waist, but the ache in her heart was far worse. People pitied Jennifer at the hospital, but truth be told, Danica was the one left humiliated and degraded, pushed aside.
And Jennifer’s arrogance? That was Wayne’s doing. He was the one who spoiled her and emboldened her.
Danica gave a bitter smile. “Cordell, did someone send a photo to Emelia this morning?”
Cordell hesitated and then pulled it out. It was a photo of Wayne and Jennifer dancing at the bar.

“It came this morning. Someone mailed it to Mrs. Hamilton. The moment she saw it, she lost it and had Jennifer taken in,” Cordell said.
Emelia truly loved Danica. She never wanted to see Danica hurt.
Danica stared at the photo for a long moment and said, “Who do you think sent it?”
“Someone who clearly wanted to expose Mr. Hamilton’s affair. Someone who’s on your side.”
Danica let out a soft, dry laugh. No wonder Wayne didn’t believe her. Everyone probably thought it was her.
And from the outside, it did look like Danica would benefit the most.
If it wasn’t Danica, it had to be someone trying to defend her, someone who wanted revenge on Jennifer.
Just then, from the bed, Emelia murmured, “Wayne…”
“She’s calling for him,” Cordell said quietly.
Today, Wayne had crushed Emelia’s heart. And Danica feared it would leave a rift between them that might never heal.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was from Liliana.
Danica picked up. Liliana’s voice was cold and sharp. “Danica, look what you’ve done. Jenny ended up in the hospital. Get over here. Now!”
Danica’s face didn’t flicker. “On my way.”
She hung up, grabbed her bag, and headed for the door.
“Are you sure?” Cordell asked, worried Danica would walk into another trap.
Danica gave him a small smile. “Don’t worry, Cordell. I’ve got this.”

At the hospital. Danica walked into the VIP suite. Jennifer was nestled in bed, wearing a hospital gown, her face pale and pitiful. She looked like the perfect victim.
Wayne stood beside her. Liliana hovered nearby like a guard dog.
The moment Danica walked in, Liliana launched her attack. “The doctor said she’s lucky. But you, Danica, you tried to manipulate Emelia into doing your dirty work. If Wayne hadn’t stepped in, Jenny might’ve died! You’re disgusting!”
Danica didn’t respond.
Wayne stood at the bedside, tall and silent. He poured a glass of water and handed it to Jennifer.
“Feed me,” Jennifer pouted sweetly.
And he did.
Jennifer tilted her head, staring up at him. “Wayne, after what happened, your grandma’s going to hate me even more.”
She tugged at his sleeve. “So you’ll have to love me twice as much, to make up for it.”
Wayne didn’t answer. He simply placed a hand on her head.
Jennifer basked in it. Then she looked at Danica, raising her brow in a look that was both smug and mocking.
Danica stood alone in the doorway, watched her husband spoil another woman, and felt utterly invisible.

Then Liliana turned. “Danica, why are you still standing there? This is your fault. Apologize to Jenny. Now”
That was why they’d called her here, to make her bow her head and say
SOITY.
Wayne finally looked up. And those cold eyes locked on Danica.
