Chapter 89
rdana saki, “I’m not, I didn’t. Mr. Gibson, please let me explain.”
There wasn’t a single person by the doorway to the break room,
Edana turned around and glared viciously at Audrey. “You lied to me!” At that moment, her face had gone pale from fright.
Aadrey had long suspected Paul had other motives for hiring her. Her resume wasn’t outstanding enough to be the only choice; her education was decent but her work experience was lacking.
Logically, Paul, as a company owner, wouldn’t make such a fuss over checking the elevator surveillance for a new hire who hadn’t even started yet, and whose employment was still uncertain.
After all, Clayton had been Stride Commerce’s legal advisor–they should be more familiar with things, both emotionally and logically.
Paul openly backed Audrey, not only projecting the image of a supportive boss to the company’s employees but also instilling a strong sense of security and belonging in this newcomer, it was called emotional investment.
Like she said, everyone had their own needs. She was here to make money. If she could earn more by helping Paul, she could pretend to be unaware–on
the condition that no one crosses her bottom line.
In summary, it was her guess, but Edana’s reaction gave a definite answer.
“Audrey.” Edana belatedly realized she had said the wrong thing. She feared Audrey might go straight to Paul to verify. She was a little panicked and
confused. She couldn’t afford to let Paul’s plan be ruined.
“I was just talking nonsense earlier, don’t take it seriously.” She reluctantly lowered her stance.
Audrey’s coffee was ready, but she wasn’t satisfied with the taste.
That morning, seeing lemon slices in Yann’s coffee cup, she wanted to try it too, but the smell didn’t seem pleasant at all.
Coffee was already a bit sour; now it was even more sour. It made her eyebrows twitch, and she didn’t understand how Yann could drink it.
She smacked her lips. “I’m here to make money, not to climb social ladders. Save your little tricks, and we can all get along peacefully.”
Edana tried to find signs of disguise on Audrey’s calm face and questioned, “Mr. Gibson is hundreds of times better than Clayton.
Aren’t you tempted?”
“There are thousands of men better than Clayton. Do I have to fall for every one I see?” Edana didn’t believe Audrey. She thought ever

Although Paul was two years older than Clayton, men at that age were more mature and responsible. Besides, Paul was from Ashbourne, with excellent conditions and strong abilities. Audrey had no reason to still think about a jerk.
“Are you trying to climb higher?” Edana seemed to have uncovered Audrey’s secret. She felt confused. “Your target can’t be Mr. Winifred, right? I advise
you to give up that idea early.
“Even many wealthy heiresses can’t catch Mr. Winifred’s eye, let alone a lone girl from a small town like you. Don’t daydream–you’re not even worthy to meet him in person.”
Audrey nodded in agreement. “You’re right.” She was too lazy to argue or explain.
Edana wanted her to face reality, but seeing Audrey accept it so easily just made her feel annoyed.
“Those two women who threw themselves at him before got our company blacklisted. You’re looking for trouble, don’t drag Stride Commerce down with you!”

Paul asked Audrey to handle some paperwork. If she could get it done, they could discuss cooperation with Luther.
I’ll go with Audrey.” Edana volunteered.
Weren’t you just saying you needed to follow up on the Budweiser cooperation?” Audrey stood up, “Tiffany, come with me.”
Edana smiled at Tiffany. “Handling paperwork is a hassle. I have a car, which makes it easier. Tiffany reviewed the contract with me last night, so she can handle the follow–up too.”
Tiffany looked at Audrey. She wanted to go, but it was so hot she’d sweat just moving. Audrey probably wanted to take Edana’s car because it was more
convenient.
Audrey smiled, grabbed the car keys, and said, “No need. I have a car. Let’s go, Tiffany.”
Tiffany’s eyes lit up as she looked at Paul.
Paul waved her off casually, and she immediately followed Audrey.
Edana was so angry she crumpled the papers in her hand, but after Paul gave her a warning glance, she pursed her lips and said nothing more.
Until they arrived, Tiffany still couldn’t believe Audrey’s car was a white Land Rover worth over a million.
She thought, ‘A delicate girl behind the wheel of such a beast of a car… Seriously? That’s one cool ride
and one cool driver!‘
Audrey’s car couldn’t enter the compound, so they had to park outside.
“I’ve done this paperwork before. It’s a pain.” Tiffany shared her experience. “Every department passes the buck.”
Everyone in the department wanted a cut. The ones with a bit of conscience would at least stamp and sign after taking the money.
But some just took the bribe and still dragged their feet – and the worst part was, you couldn’t even afford to fall out with them.
They walked into the compound, and Audrey immediately spotted a black Maybach.
