Chapter 218
“Ouch! What are you doing?” Riley covered her wrist where Audrey had slapped it, tears welling in her eyes.
Audrey raised her hand and waved it in front of Riley. “Your eyes aren’t blind, are they? Then open them wide and look what it is.”
Riley pouted and froze when she saw the ring on Audrey’s finger. “Uncle Clayton bought you a ring? He’s not even divorced from Aunt Valerie yet! How dare you ask him to spend so much money on you?”
Valerie had shown concern for Riley, helped her lie, and stood up for her, so Riley still thought Valerie was a good person.
If Alexa hadn’t threatened to commit suicide to stop her from contacting Valerie, she would have gone to Clayton’s house to see her long ago.
“Audrey, didn’t you look down on mistresses?” Riley raised her chin, eyeing Audrey with disdain. “You said Uncle Clayton betrayed you, but now you’ve become the very thing you hate.”
The onlookers turned to stare at Audrey with strange looks. Despite Riley’s bad behavior and arrogance, people’s dislike of mistresses was unanimous, so their negative feelings quickly shifted to Audrey. At this point, any explanation from Audrey would only make things worse.
Audrey was really reluctant to argue with Riley, thinking she was just a child with skewed values, but the more she retreated, the more Riley pushed. She had to fight back.
Audrey showed no sign of being exposed or angry. Instead, she said in a mocking and disappointed tone, “If you hadn’t stolen money from home, your grandfather’s embezzlement wouldn’t have been exposed.”
She continued, “If you hadn’t listened to that bitch, you wouldn’t have tried to frame your classmate only to get raped. If you weren’t brainless, you wouldn’t have believed your grandmother’s lies or dared to mess with me.”
Each of Audrey’s words made Riley’s face paler and paler.
The negative emotions instantly shifted back to Riley. The crowd exclaimed, “What good can come from a corrupt official’s family? She’s used to splashing money around, and now that they’re broke, she’s turned to theft.”
“Did you hear her tone? She’s on good terms with a home wrecker. Such a clueless child must have a terrible family education.”
“She’s young but already up to no good, trying to harm others and ending up harming herself instead.”
“Stop! Stop saying that!” Riley covered her ears, glaring fiercely at Audrey and shouting, “You’re lying! My grandfather didn’t embezzle, and I wasn’t raped!”
Audrey ignored Riley and raised her hand again for the crowd to see.
“This is my wedding ring. I’m already married. Your Uncle Clayton lost his job because of that mistress and is drowning in debt. Do you think I’d fancy such trash? I advise you to stop daydreaming,” she said.
“She’s lying! That’s not true!” Riley couldn’t stand being stared at like a freak. Shame, panic, and fear all turned to anger.
“Audrey, I’ll kill you!” Riley lunged at Audrey, trying to scratch her face. She had skipped school to get long acrylic nails; if they connected, Audrey’s face would be hurt.
Audrey grabbed Riley’s hair and quickly subdued her.
Riley screamed, “It hurts! Get your hands off me, you crazy bitch!” When Riley tried to scratch Audrey’s hand, Audrey kicked the shopping cart. Its front wheel hit Riley’s heel, forcing her to reach back to steady herself.
“Shut your mouth,” Audrey said, dragging Riley toward the checkout counter.
Riley cried in pain and tried to push over a nearby shelf to stop Audrey, but before she could, Audrey yanked her hair forward.

“What are you waiting for?” Riley shouted to the two thugs. “Are you just going to let her bully me?”
They were about to charge forward but shrank back when they saw the man pushing the cart behind Audrey.
Yann had stayed silent all along, but when their eyes met, his cold gaze startled them. The thugs knew this man was more dangerous than any gang member, so they quickly dumped the stolen items on the counter.
“We don’t want these anymore. We don’t know her,” they said and ran off.
“How could you?” Riley tried to chase them but was pulled by her hair to the security guard by Audrey.
“What she did was wrong, but you shouldn’t have humiliated her in public,” Audrey told the guard. “You should have taken her to an office to handle this privately. Also, your compensation policy isn’t legally binding.”
Riley stared at Audrey in shock, unable to believe she was speaking up for her.
Now Riley was sure Lillian was right–Audrey wanted to remarry Clayton. Audrey had insulted her just for prestige but would still clean up her mess.
Riley sneered triumphantly. “Audrey, why say such harsh things when you’re going to help me? Let me go now, and I’ll forget about this.”
“I said, shut up.” Audrey pulled Riley’s hair tighter, making her yelp. Even the security guard flinched.
“Since she’s not in school and won’t contact her parents, call the police,” Audrey said, “She’s a minor, but with a prior record, repeat offenders can still be detained.”
“No!” Riley’s eyes widened in panic. “Don’t call the police! Audrey, are you trying to help me or destroy me?”
Audrey scoffed, “I’m not defending you. I was just reminding the staff not to let you twist the story. You’re in the wrong for not paying. Your guardian has to take responsibility.” Then, to the guard, “I can give you her guardian’s phone number.”
“No, please!” Riley screamed wildly, finally pulling out crumpled bills from her pocket to pay. As she left, she glared at Audrey through tears. “You’ll pay for this!”
“Trash,” Audrey scoffed. She tugged Yann’s sleeve and said, “I’ll check out. You go drive the car to the entrance.”
Yann still looked annoyed, but after Audrey gave him a gentle push, he turned to leave.
He had been queuing behind her, so Audrey quickly reached the froht of the line. She took items out of the cart one by one and suddenly froze at a box. she didn’t remember adding.
Audrey’s face turned red when she saw what it was–Yann had secretly placed a box of large–sized condoms in the cart.
“Any other items?” the cashier asked after scanning the last item. Audrey stared at the ceiling, blushing, and quickly placed the condom box on the counter.
