Chapter 151
Audrey’s hand was tightly wrapped in Yann’s large palm. Her heart jolted like it had been shocked by electricity, pounding wildly out of syn. Thomp thump, thump.
If not for the car’s wind foar and the soft hum of tires on the road, her racing heartbeat would’ve been crystal clear.
She bit her lip instinctively, turning to watch cars blur by and crowds bustling on the sidewalk, her ears burning hot.
She thought, ‘Calvin’s right here. How could Yann be so straightforward?‘
Yann held her hand on his knee, leaning in until his breath warmed her ear. “You’re not scared of marriage just because of one jerk, are you?”
“Of course not! I’m not scared of marriage. One bad apple doesn’t…”
“Head to city hall,” Yann cut in, barking the order at Calvin without hesitation.
Audrey was dumbfounded. She thought, ‘So he’s using reverse psychology? Pulling the same tactics he used on competitors.
Before she could argue, she noticed his
s trembling slightly where they clasped hers.
Yann, who could dominate boardrooms without showing a flicker of emotion, was leaking real feelings over a marriage license?
She smirked, her eyes glowing with smugness.
Like they say, everyone has a weakness. In love, the one who cares more always gives in first.
Right then, Audrey felt a rush of confidence.
She flopped lazily into his broad chest and murmured, “We can get a license, but you’ll have to limit the odd days to the 3rd, 6th, and 9th each month.” Afterward, she shot him a playful, seductive glance.
Last time she had messed up and given herself a massive headache. This time, she was determined to turn things around. 3rd, 6th, 9th, 13th, 16th, and 19th. Only nine times a month.
Even if he had endless energy and went all night, it’d still be way less stressful than the monthly odd–numbered–day pressure.
Yann’s deep eyes narrowed slightly as he idly toyed with her delicate fingers, clearly amused. His sharp, calculating mind was already weighing the pros
and cons.
He thought, ‘Should I agree to cut back on our intimate nights to secure a marriage license and legal status first? Or rely on my stamina and attentiveness to fully win her over, staying as lovers without official labels for now?‘
After a moment, Yann asked softly, “Can we announce the marriage?”
“No!” Audrey snapped back without hesitation.
She didn’t doubt Yann’s feelings, nor was she afraid of misjudging him again. But she wanted to grow stronger first.
With Yann’s status, countless women would throw themselves at him, willing to sleep with him for benefits even without a title. She needed to be able to protect herself or fight back instead of being a burden.
Yann frowned slightly, a trace of unspoken hurt crossing his handsome face, like a boy suddenly told he could only have his favorite candy a… solving a tricky puzzle.
Seeing his conflict, Audrey secretly gloated, wiggling her feet triumphantly. Her pant leg had rolled up, revealing faint finger marks on her ankle from where he’d gripped too hard the night before. The memory sent a shiver down Yann’s spine.
Chapter 151
Noticing his sharpened breath, Audrey followed his gaze and quickly dropped her leg, yanking her pant leg down.
Yann coughed into his fist. “Then for fairness, let’s keep it secret for now and change the schedule to the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th
“No way!” She shook her head like a metronome. ‘No surrender! I have to hold my ground,’ she thought.
He was a perfectionist in bed too. The first time had been clumsy, but since then, he’d mastered it completely. What drove her crazy was his need to “debrief” afterward.
Seeing her resolve, Yann frowned again, clearly torn.
Calvin, who was driving, was getting antsy. He thought, ‘Just get the license first!‘ Sure, Yann hadn’t waited ages, but he’d put in plenty of effort to win Audrey’s heart.
He didn’t get what “3rd, 6th, 9th” and “1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th” meant, but to Calvin, locking down a legal status should outweigh everything,
Calvin kept shooting glances at the rearview mirror, practically dying to make the call for Yann. At a red light, he couldn’t hold back. “City hall closes in an
hour.”
Yann stared at Audrey like he was making a huge sacrifice. “Fine, your way. 3rd, 6th, 9th.”
Now that he’d caved, Audrey’s radar went up. She mentally replayed her words to check for traps. “Calvin, take us to city hall,” she finally said.
“Sure!” Calvin grinned ear to ear, flooring the gas as soon as the light turned green.
Yann turned to look out the window, a slow smirk tugging at his lips, his eyes practically oozing triumph.
Calvin’s driving skills were impressive. He zigzagged through traffic like a pro, getting them to city hall just before closing.
A clerk who’d already packed her bag and was ready to bolt scowled when they walked in. Just as she opened her mouth to send them packing, a fancy- wrapped gift landed on her desk.
“Appreciate your help,” Yann said.
“N–no trouble at all, happy to assist.” The clerk stashed the gift which was obviously pricey. Eyeing the good–looking couple, she spilled out a ton of warm congratulations.
To boost the marriage rate, the process had gotten simpler than ever.
Stepping out of city hall, Audrey felt like she’d just woken from a trance. She and Yann were officially family!
Yann plucked the marriage license from her hand. “I’ll keep this safe.”
“Wait a sec.” Audrey frowned, sensing something was off. It felt both inevitable and surreal. “Don’t you think we’re missing something?”
Yann thought for a moment. “You’re right.” He guided her to the car, and Calvin turned toward the bustling commercial district.
An hour later, they sat in a VIP room at a luxury jewelry boutique.
The manager entered carrying a glass case with stunning, priceless rings inside.
“Blue diamond or white?” Yann held her hand and asked her to try on each ring.
“Mind if we talk privately?” Audrey signaled the manager to wait and pulled Yann aside. “That’s not what I meant by ‘missing“”
Yann’s gaze softened. “I’ll transfer all my properties and stocks to you.”
“It’s not about money. I was thinking…” Audrey stopped short, hearing a familiar voice outside.
