Chapter 107
Chapter 107
Audrey didn’t hesitate and flipped to the last page. Her gaze quickly locked onto the crucial test result line: specimen 1 is the biological mother of specimen 2. Seeing this conclusion, she looked up at Carson.
Carson helplessly spread his hands, feeling a wave of disappointment and anger rising inside him.
Actually, he couldn’t blame himself for a fleeting dark thought; after learning about Luna’s tragic ordeal, he genuinely wished Valerie were not Luna’s biological mother.
That way, perhaps there would be other legal ways to save poor Luna from suffering.
But fate had other plans. Even though Valerie was completely unfit to be a mother, destiny handed her such an adorable child.
“Luna’s been hospitalized again, did you know?” Audrey solemnly handed back the phone.
Carson shook his head quickly. “I didn’t know. I just finished three surgeries and was called over by a colleague!” Saying that, he hurried toward the
elevator.
After just two steps, he suddenly stopped, turned back, and looked at Audrey. “Let’s go. Let’s stand up for Luna’s justice.”
Audrey followed him to the pediatric ward. When they arrived at the ward door, a crowd had already gathered outside.
After the police were called, the female officer who had previously handled Luna’s case arrived promptly. Along with her came staff from the local community committee.
After some questioning and inspection, they confirmed Luna was currently unharmed, so everyone’s tense hearts relaxed a little.
But heartbreakingly, Luna’s neck showed a ring of frightening purple bruises from being bound for a long time. It looked really scary.
The community auntie’s eyes were red with anger. “Are you even human? Three adults can’t take care of one child. If no accident happened, it’s lucky. But if the child panicked and struggled violently, you’d all be murderers.”
The policewoman’s gaze was cold enough to freeze someone solid. “This is what you call ‘taking good care of the child‘?” Her sharp eyes turned to Cheryl. Cheryl and Valerie really were mother and daughter–those tears came on cue, flowing at lightning speed.
She covered her face with her hands, sobbing and explaining, “Officer, this really was an accident.
“Last night, I suddenly felt dizzy and nauseous. Vally was busy taking care of me and neglected Luna, but we all thought she had gone to sleep in the next room. We didn’t expect her to sneak onto the balcony.
“She’s always liked wearing her mom’s clothes and high heels. If she wasn’t naughty, how would her clothes have fallen like that…”
Cheryl watched the cop’s face through her fingers, trying to catch any sign or reaction that might help her.
The female officer approached Luna’s bed, gently stroking her head. Just as her hand touched Luna, the little girl suddenly jerked away, startled.
The officer wasn’t angry. She slowly squatted down, looked up at Luna with a gentle gaze. “Don’t be afraid. Do you remember me?”
Luna lowered her head without a word. That face, which should’ve been full of childish innocence and joy, showed no emotion at all. Compared to the last time they met, her cheeks had plumped up just a little.
“Please make way.” Carson pushed through the crowd and entered.
Valerie, sitting on the other side of Luna’s bed, saw Audrey following Carson in and immediately looked crazed.
She widened her eyes and stared fiercely at Audrey. “Audrey! What are you doing here? Are you here to laugh at us?”

Chapter 107
Hearing Valerie’s furious roar, Luna suddenly looked up and cast a hopeful glance toward Audrey at the door.
This subtle change was naturally noticed by the female officer who had been watching Luna carefully.
The officer nodded slightly to Audrey in respect, then asked politely and professionally, “Were you the one who called the police?”
Audrey confidently nodded and answered clearly, “Yes, I made the call.” Her voice was clear and firm, as if she was prepared to face anything,
Clayton, who had been silent all this time, could no longer hold back his feelings. His face turned as dark as a stormy sky, his expression twisted like he had just swallowed a disgusting green–headed fly.
He walked up to the front of the crowd in disbelief, eyes burning with a mix of confusion and anger.
Staring straight at Audrey, he gritted his teeth and demanded, “What exactly do you want? What can’t be resolved privately that you have to call the police at every turn? You’re just wasting the country’s precious public resources!”
Hearing this accusation, Audrey just glanced at him coldly. Her gaze was as icy and piercing as winter frost, then she retorted expressionlessly, “If I don’t call the police, will you run wild and lawless?”
Her tone was calm and steady, but the power behind her words was undeniable.
“You bitch, mind your own business with my family.” Valerie rushed forward like a madwoman, raising her hand to slap Audrey
Before her palm could fall, a figure swiftly intervened. Carson blocked her hand. “How dare you!”
Valerie first looked at Carson in shock, then turned her gaze to Audrey, freezing completely. After a while, as if she suddenly understood something, she burst into loud laughter while cursing, “Now I get it!
“I was wondering why you insisted on framing Clayton with such a shameful accusation, even forcing him to divorce you.
“So you’ve already been hooking up with Carson! What, the doctor makes more money than the lawyer? Or does Carson spend more on you?”
“Shut up!” Clayton pulled Valerie back.
Valerie stumbled and sat down on the hospital bed, then stood up and shouted at Clayton, “You won’t let me speak, but I’m going to. Aren’t you obsessed with her?
“Open your eyes and see the huge cuckold she’s put on you! She’s with your best friend…”
Two crisp slaps in quick succession. Audrey’s hand struck Valerie’s left cheek, Clayton’s hit the right.
Valerie covered both sides of her face, dumbfounded. “You hit me? I was standing up for you, and you hit me for her?”
Clayton clenched his fists, his palms tingling, his heart aching. He avoided Valerie’s questioning gaze, didn’t even dare look at Audrey, and suddenly grabbed Carson’s collar.
