Chapter 4
When I came to, all I saw was white. I turned my head, heart pounding. “My baby… is the baby okay?”
The nurse didn’t flinch. “The baby’s gone.”
I shut my eyes. Tears streamed down. I already knew–but hearing it crushed me.
She watched me cry and sighed. “I heard the baby wasn’t even your husband’s. If you didn’t love him, why marry him?”
“He’s not my husband,” I said, my voice sharp.
She shook her head like she didn’t care. “Don’t bother lying. He posted the video. Everyone’s seen it. Everyone thinks you cheated and got caught.”
She shoved her phone into my hand.
Apparently, after I blacked out, someone had finally stepped up and rushed me to the hospital.
While I was stuck in bed, the video of me getting beat down had blown up. Everyone online was tearing me apart.
Before I could even think about defending myself, chaos broke out in the hallway. I pushed past the pain and swung my legs over the bed.

“Don’t move! You just lost the baby!” the nurse said, panicked.
I didn’t care. I opened the door–and there he was.
Steven, smug as hell, holding up his phone and live–streaming.
“Thanks for the love, guys! Smash that follow. Once we hit 100K viewers, I’m going back in to teach that whore another lesson.”
The hallway was packed. Patients, families—everyone staring, whispering.
My hands shook. I grabbed a water glass and chucked it at him.
“Steven, watch out!” Peggy shrieked.
He ducked just in time. The glass shattered behind him.
Steven’s face twisted. “You dare throw something at me?”
Peggy sneered. “Steven, we were too soft on her. That’s why she refused to admit her mistake.”
Their twisted faces, the pain, the loss—it all boiled over. Rage burned through me.
Steven passed the phone to Peggy, puffing up his chest. Facing the camera, he said, “Listen up. Never go easy on cheaters. Show them who’s boss.”

He raised his hand to hit me again–then a voice cut through the crowd, icy and lethal.
“Who dares lay a hand on my wife?”
Heads turned. From the sea of faces, a tall, commanding figure stepped forward.
Xander.
He didn’t even hesitate. He walked straight to me. “Cece.”
The moment I saw him, everything cracked. My chest caved. “Our baby… he’s gone…”
Xander wrapped me in his arms, steady and strong.

Xander had already been freaking out when I didn’t answer my phone. Then he saw the video—and came straight to the hospital.
Steven, clueless, sneered, “Perfect timing. I was about to hunt down your little side piece, and here he is, walking right up to
me.”
Xander’s stare went razor–sharp. “You must really have a death wish.”

“You slept with my wife and still act tough? I’ll kill you!” Steven barked, throwing a punch.
He didn’t even get close.
Xander kicked him down like it was nothing. Cold. Precise.
“Steven Garrett,” he said, voice like ice, “who gave you the guts to touch my wife?”
Everyone thought Xander was some buttoned–up gentleman. But I knew better–underneath that charm was pure steel.
Steven staggered up, holding his side, and turned the phone camera on Xander. “This guy? He’s my wife’s lover! Looks fancy, but he’s just trash!”
