Chapter 6
The fund verifier didn’t respond to my question.
Instead, she stared at Oliver with a blank expression.
Her jaw dropped, and she struggled to form a complete sentence for quite some time.
“Mr. … Mr. Galley…”
Sensing something was off, Oliver stood up abruptly and walked over to the fund verifier.
He glanced at the device she was clutching tightly.
The crowd murmured in confusion.
“What’s happening? Was there an unexpected result? Even if the number is low, it’s just zero, right? Why the shock? Surely it can’t be a negative
number.”
“Yeah, what’s going on? Hurry up and tell us–we’re all waiting.”
They hadn’t yet grasped that something unusual had occurred, still eagerly awaiting the outcome.
Oliver, however, was already staring at me in disbelief, his hand’s veins pulsing as he remained silent for a long time.
Under the crowd’s pressure, the fund verifier reluctantly announced the result, her voice devoid of its former confidence.
“After verification… Ms. Mabre’s account balance is… one billion dollars,

fully meeting the requirements for unlimited bidding.”

The noise in the room reached an overwhelming peak, almost threatening to blow the roof off.
Everyone stood up in shock, their expressions bordering on ridiculous.
“One billion dollars? How can that be?”
“Did Mr. Galley deceive us? Are we all just being played for fools?”
Oliver stayed silent, offering no answers to the doubts swirling around him.
The crowd, expecting a show, turned their accusations on him, demanding an explanation.
Jessica’s facade of gentleness and calm shattered. Her piercing voice cut through the chaos.
“Oliver, what’s happening? You promised me this woman would vanish completely! You said all the money would be ours! Have you been lying to me the entire time?”
Finally, Oliver snapped out of his daze, his eyes showing signs of
awareness.
He irritably pushed Jessica away as she hit and pounded on him, then marched over to me and pulled me from my seat.
“Amy, what’s going on? What on earth did you do?!”
I looked back at him with a cold, unyielding gaze.
After a tense pause, I shook off his hand forcefully, dragging my clinking ankle chains, and slowly moved onto the auction stage.
