Chapter Fourteen!
It had been two days since I got back to the country and Kason’s embarrassing attempt at Jake’s parents‘ place.}
I watched the whole ordeal from the window; when Jake got back inside, he gave me a big hug.”
“I’m so sorry about all of this, I didn’t mean to bring drama into your life.” He thumbed the tears from my eyes.“]
“You didn’t bring any drama I can’t easily handle to my life. And I’d rather have you and all the drama than not have you at all.”
“Thank you,” I whispered, my voice thick with emotion.
“I’ll protect you I promise,” the look in his eyes had shown me that day that he was dead serious about protecting me.”
Deep down, I knew Kason hadn’t exhausted his antics, too. Jake increased the security around me; today is the annual conference where I would officially be revealed as the new CEO of the company I bought from Chrissy.
I wore a black well–tailored suit that made me look like I stepped out from the cover of Vogue magazine. Jake held my hand, standing beside me, and giving me his support.
I felt all eyes on me as I made my way to the stage. I could hear cheers and screams of approval.
Taking the stage, I spoke,, “Hi everyone, as you all know, I have acquired this company, and I am the CEO, and I expect nothing but full loyalty and hard work from every worker in this company.“}]
Cheers erupted, and I looked around. My eyes connected with Chrissy’s, and she gave me a chilly look; this time, I didn’t retreat like in the past. I maintained eye contact till she herself felt uncomfortable.
“And of course, for my next move, I have decided to acquire the remaining shares of the company forcibly. As I have realized that my partners have been disloyal and tried to crash my company.“}]
Chrissy’s eyes went wide; I smirked at her. She constantly proved to be more stupid than I thought; just yesterday, she had approached my biggest rival in business.}
Asking him to manipulate the stock market and temporarily crash the shares of the company so I’d be tricked into thinking it wasn’t profitable and sell it over to him, who would, in turn, give her full control of the company.
But she forgot she had signed an agreement that if she ever did such dirty tricks, it’d be as good as signing over the company to me. Unknown to her I have a mole in my opposing rival’s company.}
I heard about it and immediately got to work making sure the manipulation failed.}]
Chrissy stood to her feet and walked to the center stage, screaming, “You stupid troll, I know it’s you,u, Amara. You might have changed your identity, but you’re still the same pathetic little..“}}
This time, I wasn’t going to take her insults; this was the same Amara from two years ago. Before she could finish hurling her insults at me ! closed the distance between us and gave her a dirty slap.
She winced in shock, fell on the ground, and cupped her cheek. Looking at me with venom.”You’re going to pay for that.” Security immediately put some distance between us and Jake carried me away from the ruckus.
Chrissy kept screaming like a banshee, acting like a deranged woman as the security picked her up and dragged her out.
Now she just laughs like a deranged woman, “I know your secret and I’ve handled it. You may have stolen my company, but I’ve done something that would hurt you too forever, as you hurt me.”
The triumph in her eyes made me uncomfortable. Chrissy could be ruthless and what secret could she be talking about?}

Suddenly, I felt a little under the weather; it’s probably the pregnancy hormones.“I need water.” I whisper to Jake.}
He immediately gets me a bottle but I keep sweating uncontrollably, “what’s wrong.” Jake asked, catching me in his arms as I felt my legs give way and a low pain in the pelvic area.
Instinctively, my hand goes to my belly, “Not again, I won’t lose another of my babies once more.” I say feverish with fear.}
From a distance, I heard Chrissy laughing, screaming, “Good, the mic was poisoned especially just for you. And it’s a dangerous poison that, when inhaled, can harm an unborn baby.“}
Before I pass out, I hear the whole dinner erupt in panic and chaos. I closed my eyes feeling Jake run with me in his arms frantically.”
I wake up in a hospital; the moment feels almost too Deja Vu. But this time, Jake holds my hand; I turn my head to his parents sitting on the couch, looking worried.”
“You’re awake!” He says with enthusiasm, wiping away the tears of worry. His parents rushed to my side, kissing and hugging me affectionately; it was more love than I could have hoped for.
But the question lingered in my heart, I was too afraid to speak. A sob broke out of me before I could hold it; I put my head on my lower belly, afraid to look down, thinking I would see myself bleeding just like the last time.
“You didn’t lose the baby.” My mother–in–law says affectionately.
“The doctor said you didn’t inhale enough of the poison so our baby was saved. You had very slight contractions, but our baby is a fighter, just like its mum.” Jake said with tears of joy.”
We all embraced as a happy family; if I could wrap up this feeling and put it in a bottle, I would.]
“I’ll make sure Chrissy and her accomplices rot in prison forever. She’s already in the police custody as soon as she spills who helped her.

“Jake said with anger.
I hugged him with all my heart. Chrissy’s attempt to steal my happiness had failed once more. But I knew there was still more fight left in Kason and Chrissy.}
Only this time, I wouldn’t run away. I’ll stand my ground and fight them with everything I’ve got.
This time the odds were in my favor.
