Genevieve’s Point of View
> A Week Later <<
Convincing Enzo to allow me to do bikini modeling was a tough job, but I managed to get his approval, and here we are–a week later, waiting outside the manager’s office to sign our contracts.”
“I can’t believe your mom actually begged you to let Fred go because of that ungrateful son of his–and you did,” Kayla said, her eyes burning with anger and hatred like mine did last week.}}
“You don’t understand. Kelvin is just a kid. He didn’t understand what happened during that accident, so it’s natural for him to assume that I killed his mother. He-”
“Continue defending him,” she interrupted me. “You’re just too kind for your own good, and that’s why they took advantage of you for so long.”
I sighed. “I did it for Susan. She gave up her only chance of survival for me, and I have repaid that debt by saving her husband’s life.“}] “True,” Kayla nodded in agreement.”
Finally, it’s done. Life for life. I have fully repaid my debt of life.
“But come to think of it, Genevieve, I don’t think your mother is your biological mother.”
“Huh?”
“Yeah. I might be tripping, but your mom doesn’t act as if she’s your biological mother.“”
gave her a weird look. “Are you okay? Of course she’s my biological mother. She’s just scared of losing her marriage, that’s why.”
She shook her head in disagreement, her expression becoming serious.”
“Calm down and listen to me before you argue or even try to prove me wrong. Between your mom and dad, who do you think you took after?“D
“None.”
“Exactly. Doesn’t it bother you?”
“Why should it bother me? Mom said I took after her late great–grandmother, and…“@
“Have you seen a photo of her? I mean, her great–grandmother?” she asked.
I shook my head. “Do photos exist in their time?” I asked dumbly.”
Kayla’s brows raised. “Are you for real?”
Her shoulders moved as she laughed briefly.
There’s nothing left for me to say,” she said, raising her hands in surrender and leaving me to battle with my thoughts.”
Could she be right? Could it be that the people I called parents aren’t actually my parents?!
>>>>>>>
After hearing Kayla’s words, I couldn’t concentrate on anything else. Immediately after we finished our business at the agency, I decided to go to my mother’s home and ask her a few questions about my true identity.”
She was happy to see me and welcomed me warmly. She even offered to prepare something for me to eat, but I politely rejected her offer. “You don’t look so happy. Is everything okay?” she asked when she noticed my sullen expression.
I simply stared at her, not knowing how to ask her.
“Is… is it your husband? Did he chase you out?” Her voice was growing worried now.
I shook my head.”
“Then… talk to me, Genevieve. What’s wrong?”
Taking a deep breath, I mustered every ounce of courage in me and asked, “You and Dad… are you my biological parents?”
for my
Her eyes widened in shock. She blinked a few times before reaching for my hands and squeezing them comfortingly.
I want to know the truth. I want to know my true identity–but I’m scared.
What’s going to happen when I eventually find out they’re not my real family?!
“Genevieve,” she called quietly. “You’re not our biological child.”
She dropped the bombshell.”
My heart stopped as my biggest fear turned into reality. I’m not their child.
“What?” I whispered. I could hear my heart breaking bit by bit.”
“We’re not your parents, but that doesn’t make us love you less. Your father and I truly love you like our own flesh and blood,” she said, her eyes searching mine.”
She’s right. They never made me feel like I wasn’t their flesh and blood. They showered me with so much love. They weren’t rich, but they gave me everything they had.”
“We didn’t have our own child. We were lonely and hopeless until you came along. You brought so much joy and fulfillment into our lives,” she hiccupped, trying so hard to hold back her tears–but she failed awfully. Her tears flowed down her face relentlessly, and I couldn’t hold mine back.

“Who are my parents?” I managed to ask.
She shook her head. “Unfortunately, I don’t know who your real parents are, but I know someone who does.“)
“What?”
“Mr. Fabio… your father–in–law,” she said.
Hearing her words, my mind flashed back to Enzo’s father’s statement… He said I am their family’s nemesis. What did he mean?!
“Your real parents might be involved in something dangerous. They might even be in the Mafia business too,” she said.
“What do you mean, Mom?” I asked.
“According to your father, your biological father seemed to be running away from someone very powerful, and knowing you wouldn’t be safe with him, he entrusted you to your father and begged him to protect you. He even allowed your father to adopt you and change your name so that the people who were after him wouldn’t locate you.”
My brows furrowed. My parents were involved in the Mafia world too?
“Your real father promised to check on you from time to time, but he didn’t. We never heard from him again, so we decided to continue raising you as our own. My husband and I decided not to tell you about your true identity unless you found out yourself,” Mom said.
“I’m sorry for questioning you about this. It’s just…”
“It’s fine. We should have told you earlier,” she smiled weakly.
“Dad’s death–does it have something to do with my identity?” I asked.§
remembered Mom told me that Dad was hit by a stray bullet.
She shook her head. “No. The people who were after your parents found your dad. You know the story from there.”
I nodded but frowned as another question crossed my mind.”
“If they found Dad, why are we still alive?“>
“They didn’t know your father was married, so he lied that he couldn’t raise the child and that she had died of malaria,” she explained.
Anyone would believe my father’s lie because he rarely went out with me and my mom.
He always wore a face mask when he managed to go out with us.
But who are those my biological parents offended?
