Chapter 4
The next morning, I calmly dropped Ada off at school, acting as if nothing had happened.
As soon as we got out of the car, Mila enthusiastically approached Ada. “You must be our new student! Let me take you both to the classroom right now.”
I took Ada’s hand and smiled. “Ada, I’ll walk you to your
classroom.”
The next second, Ada yanked her hand away from mine, sat down on the ground, and started crying. “No, I don’t want to go with Mommy. Mommy, please let me go to school, okay? I don’t want to take naked pictures for those uncles to see.”
A child’s crying is particularly piercing, and today all the parents dropping off their kids were present.
Hearing these words, they all became serious and started walking toward me.
Mila protectively stepped in front of Ada. “What did you do to this child? Naked pictures? Are you insane?”
This was exactly how it had played out in my previous life. Mila had shielded Ada and then pinned the blame on me.
I hadn’t even had a chance to explain before those parents

restrained me, and Mila had pulled out Ada’s provocative photos from my bag.
This time, I wouldn’t just wait for them to hurt me.

I raised my hand and slapped Mila across the face. “I think you’re the one who’s lost it. You didn’t hesitate for a second before accusing me of taking naked photos of a child. What evidence do you have?
“Is this how your preschool teachers discipline children? You don’t care about the truth at all and just believe whatever you hear. So what happens if our children get bullied at your preschool?”
My words made the initially angry parents around us relax.
Someone frowned and criticized Mila. “Ms. Mackay, how can you slander her without any evidence?”
Another person chimed in. “Exactly. If we had listened to you today, what would happen to her reputation? How would her child be able to live at school from now on?”
Mila was stunned, not expecting this reaction from them.
Her eyes filled with tears as she explained defensively, “I’m sorry, I was just worried that this child might have been hurt and was too scared to speak up. I was looking out for the child’s best interests. I hope you can understand.”

After hearing Mila’s explanation, instead of sympathizing with her, the parents became even angrier.
One man said, “What are you implying? That we would harm our own children?”
A woman added, “Exactly. Children at this age have communication issues. As parents, we never make things difficult for you teachers, but how can you say something like this?”
Mila was completely confused. After all, today’s scene should have been her leading those people in accusing me. Why was everyone now criticizing her instead?
These parents were the ones who loved their children the most. How could Mila think that teachers would care more about the
children than they did?
Moreover, Ada was still so young.
Many parents had been troubled by things their children said, so quite a few people would side with me.
