Chapter 6
My son threw himself into my arms, crying as he used his tiny body to wipe away the cream from my clothes.
“Mommy, I’ve only been away from you for three days, and you already look like this! Did those bad people bully you? I’ll protect you, Mommy! I’ll make them go away forever!”
With my husband and son by my side, all the gloom of the past days melted away like morning fog. I smiled and tried to reach up to stroke my son’s head
but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t lift my hand
Eventually, everything went dark
When I woke up, I was in a hospital room.
My best friend, Jade Hanley, was sitting by my bedside. As soon as she saw I was awake, she beamed with joy.
“Finally! You’re awake!”
in were unconscious!”
“You have no idea–Eastmere nearly exploded the day you were
I slowly sac up, holding my aching head. Realizing they weren’t there, I rasped, “Where’s Sebastian and Theo?”
Jade snorted with a small laugh
“Where else? They’re out there getting justice for you!”
“Your son may look like a sweet little cupcake, but I didn’t expect him to be even more ruthless than his dad. He straight up said anyone who hurt you should be fed to the sharks. He’s probably with Sebastian now, helping deal with those people.”
“The city’s about to change. You know, Sebastian’s been building up his overseas empire these past three years. This year, he planned to shift focus back to the domestic market–bur didn’t know where to start. Then those idiots gave him the perfect excuse. The Blackwoods, the Hawthemes and the Ashfords–those big families? Their entire family businesses collapsed–overnight.”
“I don’t even know how your husband did it but somehow, all their products across the country were pulled off the shelves within three hours! Online, offline, everywhere–like they never existed. Their headquarters? Completely cleared out too!”
“Oh, and the reporters who were camping outside the wedding hall caught something hilarious: all the guests who came out? Rumor has it, they all left with broken fingers and broken pride!”
-you didn’t see it, Elena. They were so scared they wet themselves–literally. They looked like they’d seen death.”
Something deep inside me–crushed for so long–stined to life.
Sebastian was still the same always putting me first. His methods were just a bit extreme.
Those people only helped Tristan humilate me. At most, they held me down and wouldn’t let me resist. I originally just wanted to teach them a small lesson in the business world and move on
But I never expected Sebastian to go this far.
“Oh right, you don’t know what happened to Tristan yet, do you?”
Jade’s eyes sparked with mischief as she looked at me.
I motioned for her to continue
“After that day, Tristan vanished. Like completely disappeared. Everyone thinks Sebastian had him killed–but I doubt it. They’re blood relatives, after all. Even if they weren’t close growing up, I don’t think Sebastian would go that far. Rumor has it… Tristan’s been shipped off to Khandra–a barren land forgotten by the world”
“Tristan’s been spoiled all his life–never suffered a day. Dropping him in Khandra? And with Sebastian pulling the strings to make sure his life isn’t rasy. Who knows if he’ll even survive.”
“What about Vanessa?” 1 asked next.
Jade smirked.
She doesn’t have any blood ties to Sebastian, and after how she treated you. Let’s just say, she got what she deserved.”
She trailed off meaningfully, and I caught the hidden implication in her tone,
I was about to press further when the door suddenly burst open–Sebastian and Theo rushed in, faces full of worry.
