Chapter 5
“Honestly, I’m ashamed to say this,” Tristan began, “but I used to know her. We even had a thing back then. I don’t know what I was thinking, falling for someone so low–class and trashy. She’s so vain, always pretending to be something she’s not–my sister–in–law, of all things.”
“I figure she was just trying to use me to get close to you, hoping to climb the ladder and soar. But I’m not giving her that chance. Everyone knows how deeply you love your wife. Remember that time someone dared to speak ill of her, and you had them dumped in the ocean? We all seen how devoted you are we can’t let anyone insult her!”
At the mention of a past relationship between me and
nd Tristan, Sebastian’s jaw tightened. The warmth in his eyes vanished in an instant.
The more Tristan talked, the darker Sebastian’s face became, until he finally let out a cold laugh.
“What’s this woman’s name?” he asked flatly.
Tristan thought he was about to get Sebastian’s support and was ready to pile on more blame.
He glanced over at me, curled up in the corner, barely breathing.
My gown was still smeared with frosting, and I looked utterly broken.
Tristan purted out his chest, voice swelling with self–importance:
“Elena Cross. My ex–girlfriend ”
The moment those words left his mouth, every bodyguard behind Sebastian visibly tensed, their faces draining of color. Internally, they began mourning
for Tristan.
Bur Tristan, blind and clueless, remained smug
“Sebastian, I swear–Elena came to me three days ago. I didn’t think much of it. But I never expected her to dare to impersonate your wife! You’ve never shown your wife’s face to anyone, but we all know how much you love her. There’s no way I could let someone disrespect you both like that! That’s why I cold her to come to the wedding to let you personally deal with her. Let her see who your wife really is!”
He babbled on, completely oblivious to the thundercloud brewing over Sebastian’s head.
He even led Sebastian forward, all too eager to show off his “righteousness.”
He didn’t notice Sebastian’s expression had tamed to stone, fury simmering beneath his calm.
The bodyguards behind him didn’t even dare to breathe.
Their footsteps drew closer, and Tristan brought Sebastian right in front of me.
Then, he gave me a vicious kick
“Get up! The impostor’s finally about to be exposed. My brother is here, and so is his wife. He hates anyone who dares pretend to be her. What do you have to say now? Don’t tell me even now you’re still going to claim you’re his wife?”
As he raised his foot again+Sebastian shoved him aside.
Bodyguards instantly surged forward and knelt down beside me, checking my injuries.
One of the reported in a trembling voice
“Mr. Vale, the ring finger on Madam’s left hand is completely fractured. Fortunately, the damage is recent and can still be repaired. Emergency services are on their way!”
The room gasped in unison. All eyes were
es were now fixed on me barely conscious, lying in the corner.
Wait–she’s the wife? The one no one’s seen for three years? And that ring–was it really the Heart of Eternity?” “Unbelievable… So she was telling the truth all along. We completely misunderstood and worse, we actually…” Arold sweat broke out across everyone’s backs.
e everyone in Eastmere knew one thing Sebastian Vale worshiped his wifle.
