Mom pulled out my death certificate, which she carried around with her at all times. Tears slid silently down her cheeks once more.
The Silverlune Guards took the death certificate and exchanged looks, unable to say a word.
I had been dead for six days. Not only had Dad been unaware of this, but he had even helped an outsider to wrongly accuse his own pup.
It was so ridiculous that even the guards, who had seen all kinds of things in the past, were rendered speechless.
Dad suddenly went crazy. He rushed forward and snatched the death certificate away. He tore it into pieces and pointed at Mom.
“Sandy, you’ve crossed the line!” he yelled. “You found someone to forge a death certificate! You’re claiming that Ray died just to protect her! You call yourself a mother?”
Mom screamed as she tried to snatch up the pieces on the floor.
The guards hadn’t expected Dad to do such a thing. They were stunned for a long time before they hastily restrained Dad in a flurry.
Mom walked right up to Dad and slapped him hard. Her voice was as cold as ice and sounded sharper than it had ever been.
“Grayson, I want to terminate my mate bond with you. Ray is gone, and I can now leave with no further regrets.”
Dad was stunned. He looked at Mom in a daze. He suddenly felt that she seemed very unfamiliar to him, and a flicker of fear rose up in his heart.
Mom didn’t want him anymore, and it appeared that I really was dead.
He didn’t seem to be able to accept the facts.
The guards took them all away, and I followed closely behind Mom. I didn’t want to be separated from her even for a single moment.
As for Dad, I wrinkled my nose in disgust. Even though I was dead, I decided not to forgive him for the harm that he had done to us.
Mom took the guards to City Hall to verify my death. She also got a death certificate reissued.
She even took them to the forest where I was buried. Under the gigantic tree, there was a small and intricate gravestone with a cross engraved on it.
I drifted up to it curiously and examined it. It seemed very new and intriguing to me.
