Chapter 3
“Smack!”
The phone hit the ground, its screen immediately cracking like a spider web.[]
“Thalia, don’t go too far!“]
Leah grabbed Thalia’s collar and yanked her up forcefully.[]
“Pierce has given his order. Why are you still here? Get out!“]
Her breath reeked of arrogance and cheap perfume.[]
Thalia didn’t flinch. She didn’t even blink.
From the first day of becoming an assistant, Leah had been targeting Thalia.[]
Once, when Thalia passed by the CEO’s office, she inadvertently overheard her saying: “Pierce, the company isn’t a charity. It’s unfair to other employees to waste so much money supporting someone who plays games all day.“[]
Her voice wasn’t loud, but just loud enough to be heard outside.[]
Pierce didn’t respond.
But through the window, Thalia saw him pause in flipping through documents.
From then on, Leah became even more aggressive.]
She began “casually” bringing up Thalia’s “achievements” in department meetings, making sure everyone knew how Thalia was “contributing” to the company.[]
“Some people take high salaries and don’t even attend meetings. I don’t know if she’s here to work or vacation.“[]
Rumors about Thalia began spreading throughout the company.[]
Some said Thalia got the job through connections, others said she slept in her office every day, and some even bet on when Thalia would be fired.[]
Thalia knew all this, but she didn’t care.

But the more Thalia ignored it, the bolder Leah became.[]
This time, she had seized the opportunity and was simply outrageous.[]
Thalia wasn’t going to let her off. She grabbed Leah’s wrist and twisted hard.[]
“Ah!”
Leah cried out in pain, instinctively releasing Thalia’s collar.
In the moment of breaking free, her arm hit the edge of the conference table, her watch making a crisp collision sound against the solid wood surface.

Leah staggered back two steps and looked down, her face instantly turning pale.
Her expensive Patek Philippe watch face now had an obvious scratch that was particularly glaring under the lights.
You.. you..1
Leah tremblingly raised her wrist, fury almost bursting from her eyes.[]
“Thalia, you… you bastard! Do you know how much this watch costs?“]]
“This is a birthday gift Pierce gave me! It’s worth $800,000!”
Thalia calmly straightened her wrinkled collar.
“If you can’t even stand steady, whose fault is that?”
“Thalia!” Pierce finally couldn’t help but roar angrily, “You’ve gone too far!“]]
“You’re not only disrupting the meeting, now you’re deliberately damaging others‘ property.“]
“As CEO, I formally notify you that you’re fired.“|[]
“Now, pack your things and leave the company immediately!“]]
Leah shouted triumphantly: “Pierce, we can’t let her off easily. She has to compensate me for my watch!“]]
Silence fell over the conference room.
m.]
Everyone looked at Thalia with pity or schadenfreude, as if waiting for a show to begin.]]
“Fine, I’ll compensate.”
“$800,000, right?“]
Thalia bent down to pick up her broken phone.[]
Although the screen was cracked, it still worked.]
Thalia dialed a number, and just as she was about to speak, Leah sneered: “$800,000? It’s $8 million!“]
Thalia stopped and looked at Leah.
“Are you sure?“]
“Of course I’m sure!” Leah lifted her chin, “A gift from Pierce is priceless! It’s not some mall trinket.“[]
“Only asking you to pay $8 million is already a bargain!“]]
“Why don’t you let everyone judge for themselves? Am I wrong?“]
Leah insisted on her point.
Leah knew Thalia’s salary couldn’t possibly cover that amount.[]
She just wanted to disgust Thalia, to humiliate her.[]

Seeing the situation, other executives spoke up to support
Leah.
“Yes, a gift from Pierce–how can you measure it with money?” The CFO pushed his glasses, “Thalia, pay up.“[]
“The company isn’t a charity. Compensation for damages is only right.” The marketing director sneered, “Though with Thalia’s salary, she might spend her whole life paying this off.“]
Everyone laughed mockingly, their eyes full of ridicule and schadenfreude.
They had never liked Thalia, and now that she was in trouble, they didn’t mind making things worse for her.
Pierce stood aside, frowning but not stopping them.[]
Faced with their mockery, Thalia didn’t get angry. Instead, she looked up at Leah: “$8 million, it won’t increase anymore, right?“]]
Leah was stunned, then laughed mockingly.
“Thalia, why are you still putting on an act at a time like this?“|[]
“How much can you earn in a month?”
“$8 million–are you going to spend your life paying for it?“]
Thalia ignored her and picked up her phone.[]
“Prepare $8 million in cash for me and deliver it to Blake Group’s conference room, as fast as possible.“[]
Leah rolled her eyes: “Pfft, what an act! Do you think a phone call can scare people? She probably thinks she’s some oil tycoon’s daughter–how pathetic-“]
Thalia didn’t respond, just waited quietly.[]
Less than ten minutes later, the conference room door was pushed open, and a well–dressed middle–aged man walked in.[]
Behind him were dozens of uniformed bank employees, each carrying a briefcase.[]
