Chapter 23
Evelynne was having breakfast when she saw Carmen, covered in wounds, and gasped in shock.
“Carmen, what happened to you?”
She rushed over to help him up, her heart aching as she looked at the gruesome injuries. Alpha Chester had been merciless, each whip strike was delivered with full force, tearing Carmen’s flesh until he was barely breathing.
But today was the fifth day, the day Carmen would finally find Liora.
A faint smile escaped his lips.
“What do I need to do today?”
Evelynne’s throat tightened. She hadn’t expected Carmen to be so indifferent to his own pain, his mind consumed only by Liora. Looking at his expectant gaze, she spoke cruelly.
“Seal the mate bond with me, Carmen. Liora is dead. Even if you tore up the bond–breaking deal, it’s useless now. The last thing you have to do is seal the mate bond with me.”
Carmen had agreed to all kinds of outrageous demands before, but this one made his face turn pale.
“Impossible.”
He refused Evelynne’s request.
“This is the last thing, Carmen. It’s the fifth day. I don’t want you to do anything else–no mating ceremony, no bond–sealing deal. I just want you to say that you’re willing to break the mate bond with Liora and be with me.”
His breathing grew heavier. Evelynne had driven away his friends, disappointed his family–he could endure all that. But this, breaking the mate bond
with Liora, was the last thread that still connected him to her.
He said nothing. Evelynne knew he couldn’t let go of Liora. She smiled.
“If you don’t agree, you’ll never see Liora again, Carmen. The choice is yours.”
Evelynne helped him up and tended to his wounds, but Carmen remained silent. Time ticked by slowly. As the fifth day neared its end, he finally walked
over to Evelynne.
“I agree to your demand,” he said calmly, though Evelynne could see the pain and turmoil within him.
But he had no choice.
Evelynne smiled triumphantly, kissed him, and ran into the room to change into a wedding dress.
She looked beautiful, but to him, it was blinding.
His breath quickened, forcing himself not to think too much. Once this was done, he would see Liora.
He spoke each word carefully, as if carrying a thousand–pound weight on his chest.
“I willingly break the mate bond with Liora. The one who becomes my Luna is Evelynne.”
That simple sentence seemed to drain all his strength. After speaking it, Carmen was utterly exhausted. He had nothing left.
Evelynne held him happily, tears streaming down her smiling face.
“I’ve finally become your Luna. Carmen, do you know how long I’ve waited for this day?”
“The past five days were actually very happy, weren’t they? Stop thinking about Liora, okay? From now on, we’ll be together like this.”
“Carmen, I love you. Do you love me?”
Carmen held the woman in his arms, instinctively opened his mouth to answer, but suddenly felt something was wrong.
He violently pushed Evelynne away, his face filled with horror and anger.
“The one I love isn’t you. It’s Liora! Evelynne, I’ve given you everything you wanted. Where is Liora?”
Caught off guard, Evelynne was thrown harshly to the floor, pain shooting through her body.
She slowly clenched her fists tightly. Just a little more–she was so close to succeeding. Why could Carmen still not forget Liora?

She could no longer hold back and screamed out desperately.
“Say it! Say you love me, Carmen!”
“You love me! Don’t you remember? We loved each other before your mating ceremony with Liora. Now we’re just getting back on track!”
