Chapter 15
Carmen only released Evelynne when she was nearly dead, letting her fall heavily to the ground.
“If you die so easily, that would’ve been too cheap for you. Since you like blaming yourself for things without cause, you’ll get to experience every one of
them.”
Evelynne lay on the floor, gasping violently. She had just thought she was going to be strangled to death.
But then she realized that dying would have been better, because Carmen was mercilessly handing down her punishment.
“It starts from when you said Liora pushed you down the stairs.”
“No… no!”
Suddenly, a warrior burst in, grabbed Evelynne off the floor, and dragged her out, then threw her harshly down the stairs.
Evelynne cried out in pain as she tumbled down.
Ninety–nine flights of stairs–she was repeatedly thrown down and dragged back up. Every bone in her body felt like it was shattered. Blood stained every step. She tried to call out to Carmen for help, but he just watched coldly.
“Not enough yet, Evelynne. This is only the beginning.”
Carmen’s lips parted, cold words spilling out like ice, making Evelynne feel as if she had fallen into hell.
Only when she finally lost consciousness did the torment end. Her ribs were broken in several places, and even the slightest movement brought
unbearable pain.
Carmen sent her to the pack doctor. She stayed there for two weeks, still far from fully healed before being taken away again.
This time, it was by the sea. The cold ocean breeze made Evelynne shiver as she remembered the second thing she had framed Liora for–when Liora had been left to lie in that freezing water all night.
Tears streamed down her face as she clung to Carmen’s coat.
“I know I was wrong, Carmen. Please, I beg you. Let me go.”
But Carmen showed no mercy. He had her tied to a stone and then ruthlessly threw her into the sea.
The salty water immediately engulfed her. She couldn’t swim and choked on several mouthfuls. The pain was unbearable. Just as she was about to drown from lack of oxygen, Carmen pulled her back up.
Evelynne gasped for air, but as soon as she took a breath, she was pushed under again.
She lost consciousness multiple times throughout the ordeal. Each time, the warriors slapped her awake, forcing her to painfully relive the sensation of
drowning.
All through the night, Evelynne was tormented until barely alive.
At dawn, she was cold all over, her face pale without a trace of color, limbs icy. Her clothes were soaked through, clinging tightly to her body. Carmen hung her up, ignoring the crowd that gathered around.
Onlookers eagerly recorded videos of her exposed misery, driving Evelynne to tears.
“Carmen, please stop… I know I was wrong. I’ll repent at Liora’s grave. Please, just let me go, Carmen.”
Evelynne sobbed pitifully but could not soften Carmen’s heart in the slightest.
His gaze was heavy as it fell on her.
“You can’t even handle this? You haven’t even begun to pay for everything you’ve done, Evelynne.”
Her already pale face turned even more miserable as she shook her head repeatedly, as if recalling something terrible.
“No… no, please don’t…”
Carmen sneered, his eyes mocking.
And you will get your chance to go to Liora’s grave. Every single thing you did, you will pay for it all.”
He raised his hand and lowered Evelynne, taking her to the hotel. But her eyes were full of terror, and she screamed desperately.
