Chapter 12
Carmen immediately launched an investigation into Liora’s death. He soon discovered that on the day she died, a masked rogue had broken into the pack house and stabbed Liora thirty–three times before fleeing the scene.
Liora collapsed in a pool of blood, barely clinging to life. Desperate, she dialed a number with one last hope.
After an eternity of busy tones, the call finally connected.
But before she could say a single word, she was met with cold, scathing accusation.
Carmen’s face went pale.
Because the voice that rang out from the surveillance recording was his own.
A memory jolted him–he had received a call from Liora that day.
What had he said to her?
He told her to stop bothering him. Told her not to interrupt his trip to pick up Evelynne. Then he hung up mercilessly, without even hearing her speak.
If he’d just been a little more patient, would Liora still be alive?
He couldn’t bear to think about this possibility. All he could do was stare numbly at the footage.
Soon, another version of Liora appeared on the screen–the one who had only existed for five days. She was wiping up the bloodstains from the floor, laboriously dragging her own body into the closet to hide.
And then came himself, walking in with Evelynne, moving into the pack house–on the very day Liora died.
Carmen didn’t need to keep watching to know what happened after. But the sound of their conversations still haunted him, echoing like nightmares through his skull.
“If you want me to stop, Carmen, then say one thing to me. Say ‘I love you.‘‘
“I love you? Do you think you’re worthy of that?”
“Carmen, I love you.”
“I hate you.”
“I just want you to say that you love me.”
“Not happening, Liora. I will never love you.”
Each sentence had been a cry for help.

Each time, all she wanted was that one simple phrase. Just a single word from him, even if it was just to coax her, just to lower his pride and Liora wouldn’t have had to die. And every single time, he had crushed her hopes cruelly.
Until the very last day, when she gave up asking for his love, and instead prepared the bond–breaking deal herself.
His heart felt like it was being crushed by an invisible hand. The room spun. His vision blurred.
Carmen forced himself to stand, barely holding it together. He called in his Beta–Luca.
“Find out who that rogue was. The one who broke in that day. Do it now!”
His roar startled Luca, who rushed off immediately to investigate.
While he waited, Carmen couldn’t contain his fury. Rage burned through him like wildfire, and he began smashing everything in the pack house.
Those priceless porcelain vases, artworks, and paintings all became tools for his rage, shattered violently against the floor as he vented his fury.
He didn’t know how long it went on. But by the time exhaustion finally took over, Luca returned, holding a stack of documents, his expression troubled,
his tone hesitant.
“Alpha Carmen, we found the rogue wolf. But…”
“But what? Spit it out!” Carmen barked.
Luca trembled, then handed him the file.
Carmen snatched the papers and started flipping through them. The deeper he read, the paler his face grew.

The attacker that day had been sent by Evelynne.
And that wasn’t all.
Luca had dug up everything–every setup, every scheme. All of it had been orchestrated by Evelynne to frame Liora.
Carmen flipped through the evidence page by page, until he reached the last one. There, all the color drained from his face.
Because the story Liora had once told him–the one he thought was too cruel to be true–was real.
Evelynne really had put Liora’s parents‘ ashes into fireworks.
He felt helpless and recalled the moment Liora lashed out in fury. She had endured for so long, but when it came to her parents‘ ashes, her anger finally broke loose. She had wanted to confront Evelynne, but he had stopped her. He remembered the look in her eyes then–so full of despair, standing on that rooftop, just wanting an answer. And yet, he had still cruelly and mercilessly hurt her.
Carmen felt like ice had filled his veins.
Why would Evelynne do something so cruel? He had given her everything, so why had she gone this far? Why had she hurt Liora again and again, even hired someone to kill her?
Blinding rage clouded his vision. His eyes burned red. He pulled out his phone and dialed the number that had been rejecting over and over again.
“Evelynne. Come here.”
His tone was icy cold, but Evelynne didn’t notice a thing. Overjoyed, she rushed over without hesitation.
