Chapter 6
The needle pushed slowly into my arm. I was limp and completely drained. But I kept biting down on my tongue. I had to stay awake. My eyes were burning red as I stared at Orville, watched him calmly tell the doctor to draw another tube…. then another… and another–until the dizziness hit me like a wave.
Then just like that, Orville, the doctors, and my father–they rushed out with my blood and didn’t even glance back at me.
That’s when the exam room door creaked open again.
A group of men barged in and slammed the door shut behind them. They were grinning at me.”
“So this is the famous daughter, huh? Damn, she’s pale and soft just like they said.
“Boys–looks like we’re in for a good time. Go get her on the bed.“N
Two of them immediately grabbed me and lifted me onto the bed.
I tried to lift my arms… to fight back… but I had no strength. My body only gave the weakest twitch.}]
Before I knew it, I felt them–their hands–rough and shamelessly crawling over my body.
“Damn, she’s so smooth… Man, her sister really treats us well.”
“Quit stalling! Get it done. Miss Blaire won’t forgive us if we screw this up. Sir, you go first–I’ll film it.”}
There was a rip of fabric–my clothes torn open! And then… a heavy body pressed down…
I gathered every last ounce of strength I had to try to scream. But the sound came out like a mosquito. Thin. Useless.
Tears slipped down my cheeks, warm against my numb face.
Ucould only close my eyes.
‘Mom…. I’m coming to see you. Heaven… must be beautiful, right?‘
Just then, the door burst open with a crash that shook the walls.
“Get your hands off her!!” A voice roared–furious, violent, absolutely unhinged.
I turned my head. Through the blur of tears, I saw a figure standing there. He looked familiar and strange at the same time.}
‘Uncle Olf! He’s here!‘
Uncle Olf–the man both sides of the law whispered about and the one even the devils feared.”
He kicked the man off me in a single blow, sent him flying across the room, and then threw two more punches, dropping all those assholes fast.
He yanked off his coat, covered me gently, his whole body radiating fury.
“You bastards have a death wish?! You dare lay a hand on my niece?!“}
He grabbed one of the thugs by the collar, slapped him so hard his face nearly twisted the wrong way.
The rest looked at Uncle Olf and then at the wall of black–clad bodyguards behind him–and went pale. One by one, they dropped to their knees with a thud.
“M–Mr. Sykes… Mr. Sykes, please have mercy! We didn’t know she’s your niece! We were just following orders!“}
Uncle Olf’s eyes narrowed like a predator’s.
“Whose orders?” he growled. “Speak. Clearly!”
With a roar, he struck a wooden chair and snapped it in half with one hand.
My Uncle Olf.8
If my mother was the gentle heiress raised on poetry and tea, Uncle Olf was the kind who solved things with fists and a baseball bat.
In fact, he built his own port at 18, had hundreds of men under him, and if he didn’t like you? You wouldn’t see morning.
Back then in West Virginia, his name meant power and fear.
By 28, he took over the Sykes Credit Solutions after my grandfather fell ill. Couldn’t stand my weak father. Hated what my mom became. Cut ties with the McDowells entirely.
But every now and then, Uncle Olf would be outside my school gates, waiting. He’d take me out to eat and even buy me presents.
Later, when the government started strictly cracking down on gangs and illegal activities in West Virginia, Uncle Olf moved his business overseas to stay out of trouble, and he never came back.
Still, he never failed to give me presents on holidays.
As long as he knew I was doing well with my family and was married to my childhood sweetheart, he probably felt at peace.
But now? Now he was back.!!
The thugs exchanged nervous glances and hesitated—a wrong move
Uncle Off kicked one straight into the wall
I’ve been gone for only a few years. You bastards, have you all forgotten how merciless I can be?“%
One of the thugs–probably the leader–turned ghost white. He dropped to the floor like a sack of bricks.
“Mr. Sykes! Please! We didn’t know she was your niece! We had no idea!!
“It was Miss Blaire! She told us to do it! She swore she wiped the security footage, and no one would find out! She even told us to stick to the story that Miss Presley came to us because she couldn’t stand being lonely!
