Chapter 4
Calliope’s POV
“Oh, Calliope, you’re back, Zephyrine greeted me with a sly smile.
I blinked, bewildered. I had barged into the bedroom, bracing myself for the worst. Yet there she was, nestled in my husband’s embrace, fully clothed, watching a movie- the source of those troubling sounds.
“What… what is happening?” I stammered.
Zephyrine had sent me a suggestive picture with Thaddeus, but this was nothing like it. Her face twisted with feigned remorse as she began to sob.
“Oh, Thaddeus, I knew we should have told

Calliope. I feel awful. Let me just go home,” Zephyrine wept.
I frowned, still grappling with the meaning behind Zephyrine’s tears. The movie now switched scenes, silencing the irritating noises.
“You can’t bear to see Zephyrine happy, can you?” Thaddeus snapped at me.
His angry tone caught me off guard. “What did I do? I just walked in.”
“Zephyrine can’t stay in the guestroom; the bed makes her dizzy and unwell. The mattress in our room is much more to her liking. I invited her tombee how you’ve returned with that irksome scowl, terrifying the poor girl,” Thaddeus explained, pulling Zephyrine closer.

I struggled to comprehend his words, “Wait… I’m confused. Zephyrine has moved into our bedroom? Our marriage sanctuary?”
Thaddeus frowned, pressing a gentle kiss to Zephyrine’s forehead. “Rest easy. Let me handle this with Calliope.”
Zephyrine nodded as Thaddeus escorted me out, his grip so tight it hurt. “You’re hurting me!” I cried out.
He loosened his grip and sighed, “Listen, Calliope, Zephyrine has been through hell. I can’t have her feeling uneasy.”
“But there are other rooms,” I asserted, my eyes narrowing.
“No!” Thaddeus retorted sharply. “It’s just a room, Calliope. I’ll buy you a new house if that’s the issue.”

“But that’s our room. Does that mean the three of us sleep there now?” I challenged.
“God, no!” Thaddeus chuckled derisively. “Zephyrine stays there. Your things are in the guest room. It’s temporary, just until Zephyrine gives birth.”
I nodded, biting my lips to hold back tears. My husband had packed up my belongings and welcomed another woman into our
space.
“So where will you be staying?” I asked him.
Thaddeus scratched his beard and sighed, “Don’t be upset, but Zephyrine is still haunted by nightmares from her past. I’ll stay with her whenever I’m home.”
I scoffed, “So I’m sidelined while your first

love moves into our bedroom?”
“It’s not like that, Calliope,” Thaddeus sighed. “Stop acting difficult. Zephyrine is pregnant, you have no idea what that’s like. Try to understand.”
A tear trickled down my face. “Of course, I don’t know what that feels like!”
I stormed to the guest room prepared for me, collapsing into a ball of grief before drifting into sleep.
I awoke with a start, heart racing as I noticed Zephyrine staring at me smugly. I was soaked with cold water.
“Zephyrine? Did you pour water over me?” I demanded, frowning.
Zephyrine scoffed, “What do you think? It’s

morning, get out of bed.”
I sat up, glaring at her. “You don’t get to dictate my routine in my own home.”
Zephyrine giggled, “After last night, are you sure it’s still your home?”
I glared at her. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Zephyrine smirked, “Nothing. Just that your husband’s mine, and that picture I sent was genuine.”
“Don’t fool yourself, Zephyrine. Thaddeus is only helping you out of pity,” I retorted.
Zephyrine laughed, “You still don’t grasp it, do you, Calliope?”
“I don’t want to start my day seeing your

face,” I snapped, standing up.
Zephyrine smiled, “Dear, oblivious Calliope. Crying yourself to sleep, still ignorant of the truth.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“What do you think Thaddeus will do if we’re both in trouble?” she taunted with a smirk.
“What do you mean?” Before I could react, Zephyrine shoved me so fiercely that I hit my stomach on the edge of the bed.
Pain shot through my abdomen, and Zephyrine let out a piercing scream.
“No, Calliope, stop it! I’m sorry!” she cried dramatically, clutching her stomach as she lay on the floor, feigning agony.

“What… What is this?” I gasped through gritted teeth, overwhelmed by the pain.
At that moment, the door burst open, and Thaddeus appeared, eyes wide with alarm.
“What’s happening here?” he demanded.
