Three years after my death, my CEO husband sent me legal papers
He sued me, claiming the kidney I donated to his precious childhood sweetheart Ruby Winters was defective, yet he never received any response from me.
To force me to show myself, he held a press conference and dramatically transferred 20% of his company shares to Ruby.[]
Finally, unable to stand it anymore, he drove to my hometown to find me.]]
My neighbor looked at him in confusion: “Mia? She hasn’t been back since her grandfather passed away.”
Furious, he pounded on my family’s door.

“Chase Vincent? Don’t you know my sister has been DEAD for two years?“]

“Playing games again, Mia?” The man stood with his hands in his pockets, sneering. “Faking your death? Trying to make me regret everything?“]
“Two years ago, she had the nerve to crash her car into Ruby. All I did was freeze her accounts, and she throws a tantrum?” []
“If Ruby’s kidney hadn’t started acting up today, I wouldn’t dream of forgiving her!”
My sister Zoey’s delicate eyebrows furrowed. “My sister has been dead for two years, and now you’re talking about forgiving her? That’s absolutely ridiculous!“]]
Chase ignored Zoey’s words completely, looking past her to where a fluffy white dog was wagging its tail excitedly.
“Still lying to me? Biscuit’s right here, so where could Mia possibly be hiding?”
“Tell her I’m giving her an easy way out right now. If she doesn’t take this chance, she can forget about ever seeing me again!“]]
Biscuit seemed to understand, limping over to his feet and barking twice sharply. My sister quickly scooped the dog into her arms to comfort him.]
Suddenly, Biscuit’s tongue lolled out and his whole body began convulsing in violent spasms.]
Zoey frantically searched for the oxygen tank and tongue depressor. Watching Biscuit like this created a crack in my soul, and I instinctively reached out to hold him.
But my arms passed right through his body.[]
The realization hit me–I was no longer part of this world. I could never embrace my loved ones again.
Chase wrinkled his nose in disgust. “Stupid mutt! Want me to kick you again?“]
Two years ago, Chase had slapped me across the face for Ruby’s sake. Biscuit, protective as always, had bitten Chase hard on the leg and was kicked across the room in return.
Biscuit’s right leg had been damaged ever since, and he would convulse when terrified.]
Chase lowered his voice threateningly, “I’ll say it one last time–tell Mia to come out and face me!“]
“She’s dead! And if she were alive, she wouldn’t want to see you anyway! I’d make sure she stayed far away from you, married someone decent, and never had anything to do with you ever again!“]]
Zoey screamed at the top of her lungs, but Chase didn’t believe a word of it.[]
“So what? Has Mia been hooking up with some random guy behind my back? Hmph, just like Ruby said–she’s nothing but a slut. I must have been blind to marry her!“]
With those words, a searing pain tore through my chest. So… the dead can still feel heartbreak.
I was driven to death by him and his precious childhood sweetheart, and yet I still had to endure these vile insults..
Just thinking about it made my entire being burn with unbearable pain.]
“Stop spouting lies! Get out of here! You’re not welcome in our home!“]
Chase shot Zoey a vicious glare. “Your home? Every brick and tile was paid for by me. Didn’t your sister tell you? Even your pathetic brother’s wedding money came from. my pocket!”
It was true. Chase had helped my family. When my mother was critically ill, he provided the money that saved her life.
When my sister–in–law got pregnant before marriage and her family pressured her to abort, he provided the wedding money that allowed my nephew to be born.[]
So to him everything I ever gave was simply his due.
What he didn’t know was that I was born with a single kidney, and the doctor who examined me had been bought off by Ruby.[]
I only discovered this during the surgery when the anesthesiologist mentioned it casually.[]
They gave me half the normal dose of anesthesia, leaving me conscious but paralyzed as I endured excruciating pain while they removed my kidney and replaced it with
a cold, artificial one.
After surgery, I developed a severe infection and died from complications within two weeks.[]
And during that time, Chase was by Ruby’s side, doting on her, never once thinking of me.[]

Zoey broke down completely. “Mr. High and Mighty Vincent, if you don’t believe me, go ask at the hospital where my sister had her surgery!“]
“They have her death certificate!“[]
Chase laughed coldly. “I already checked. They told me she was discharged without complications. You can’t even keep your lies straight!“]
That’s not how it happened at all![]
I died in that hospital after failed resuscitation attempts!]]
Yet Chase blindly believed this easily disprovable lie.[]
“Chase! You dare show your face here!”
Looking up, I saw a tall, imposing man with bloodshot eyes glaring at him.
