Chapter 15
Wyatt pushed past the reporters and stormed out of the room, his face cold and hard
He pulled out his phone. Dozens of messages flooded his inbox, but one stood out
Harper: [You’re a piece of shit, Wyatt. You and Carol drove Sloan to her death. The Grants won’t let this slide.]
Wyatt’s heart pounded as he scrolled up
Attached were screenshots of chat logs between Carol and Sloan
Carol [Guess what, slut? Wyatt and I tried roleplaying today. You wouldn’t believe how wild he got.]
Carol [Look at this ring. Wyatt gave it to me as a token of his love. Isn’t it pretty?

Carol had been taunting Sloan the whole time Sloan had endured all of this in silence.

rubbing their relationship in her face.
How long had this been going on? How much had Sloan suffered while he remained clueless?
He felt sick.
His hands shook as he put down the phone. Slowly, his grief turned into rage.
Carol. She was the reason Sloan was gone.
Wyatt’s eyes darkened, a dangerous glint flashing behind them. Like a snake poised to strike, cold and deadly.
Meanwhile, Carol returned home in tears, clutching her bruised side.
She threw herself into her mother’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably. “Mom, please… let me marry Wyatt. We love each other. Besides, after this scandal, no other man will want to marry me.”
Amelia Finley–Wyatt’s mother–had always treated Carol like her own, even though Carol was adopted. If Amelia hadn’t truly cared about her, she wouldn’t have turned a blind eye to Carol and Wyatt’s relationship all these years.
If Sloan hadn’t been the Tanner Family’s heiress, Amelia would have never agreed to let that woman near her son. That’s why Sloan’s death didn’t bother her in the slightest.
She just hadn’t expected things to blow up like this. Amelia’s eyes narrowed as she gave Carol a sharp look. “Stop acting so desperate. I raised you myself–do you think I’d let you suffer? You know this mess is too big to clean up right now. We need to lay low for a while, or the Tanners will come after us. Just wait two months. I’ll make sure you have the wedding you deserve.”
Meanwhile, Henry, the Finley patriarch, sitting nearby with a sour expression, grunted in

wedding you deserve.”

Meanwhile, Henry, the Finley patriarch, sitting nearby with a sour expression, grunted in
agreement “Enough with the crying. What’s done is done.” He shook his head in irritation. “I don’t know why Sloan was so unstable that she’d kill herself, but now I have to pay off the Tanners. They milked us dry over this mess–they ignored her for decades and now they’re about to profit from her death!”
But Carol wasn’t satisfied.
Wyatt had been acting cold toward her these past few days and today, he had even gone as far as to hit her. Her side was still throbbing painfully from the blow. If she didn’t lock this opportunity down soon, it might slip away for good.
She bit her lip and forced herself to stay calm. “Dad, I’ll cover the payout to the Tanners. But in exchange, I want you to arrange the wedding immediately. If you can make Wyatt marry me within a week, I’ll sign over the remaining shares of Wyndham Group to you.” After Carol’s parents died, the Wyndham Group shares had automatically gone to her. Wanting protection, she had handed over part of those shares to Henry back then, which allowed her to stay with the Finleys as their adopted daughter.
That decision had been a turning point for the Finleys, helping them rise to become one of the four biggest conglomerates in the city. Profit came first for businessmen and that’s exactly why the Finleys had treated Carol so well over the years.
Henry’s eyes sharpened at her offer. He was clearly tempted.
As for Wyatt’s reputation? Henry couldn’t care less. He was only in his early forties and had no intention of stepping down anytime soon. If anything, he was counting on expanding Finley Corp even further under his watch.
