Chapter 70
She let a single drop of her blood fall onto my wound.
Within seconds, something began to squirm beneath my skin, inching toward the cut. Then, a small black insect crawled out of my arm.
The female officer caught the Hexseed instantly. After examining it for a few moments, her brows furrowed.
“It’s a Transfer Hexseed. And this one transfers a child. If the master Hexseed is pregnant, the sub–Hexseed inherits the pregnancy.”
The room fell into stunned silence. It was too strange, too unbelievable.
She turned her narrowed gaze to me.”
“Kelsey, since your uterus had already been removed, the Hexseed couldn’t find a host. The transfer failed. The Hexseed became useless.“N
I looked at her and asked quietly, “Then, could the deceased infant also have had a Hexseed inside it? Is that what caused the DNA test result to be wrong?”
The female officer turned to the chief.
“Sir, I need to examine the baby’s body.“}
The chief gave a firm nod.”
Ten minutes later, the female officer stepped out and looked straight at me.
“Kelsey, you were right. The infant did have a Hexseed insect inside, specifically, a Parent–Child Hexseed. This kind can simulate a blood connection with anyone within three hours.”
I furrowed my brows, confused.}
“Officer, aren’t Pine Ridge Hexseeds supposed to be tightly controlled? How could something so dangerous be released so casually? Wouldn’t that throw society into chaos?”
The female officer gave a small nod, her tone apologetic.\
“You’re absolutely right. These are forbidden Hexseeds. No one outside of the Pine Ridge Saintess has the authority to use them. The only Hexseeds allowed outside are harmless ones that have passed national safety tests.“}
I thought for a moment and asked, “Then someone must’ve stolen them?“<
She nodded firmly.”
“We’ll get to the bottom of it. Whoever stole them won’t walk away unpunished. Kelsey, do you happen to have a photo of your roommate, Aimee?”
I recalled the class photo from the military training opening ceremony, then quickly pulled it up from our group chat.”
I found Aimee’s photo and handed it to the female officer.N
“This is Aimee. I also drank fruit tea she gave me, it must’ve contained a Hexseed.“}
The female officer frowned as she studied the image.”
“I don’t recognize her. Give me a moment. I’ll forward this to the tribe elders for confirmation.“\
I gave a slight nod.
An hour later, she returned, her expression a little strange.
“Kelsey, your roommate isn’t one of our Pine Ridge people.”
Then, her tone suddenly shifted.
“But in that same class photo, we did recognize someone who was expelled from the tribe.”
I followed her gaze and saw her finger pointing straight at Khalid.

“This boy… his mother was once the Saintess of Pine Ridge. But she was banished for secretly distributing forbidden Hexseeds.“&
My entire body went cold.
So Khalid had been the one pulling the strings all along. But why? Why target me?
Now that the police had a clear lead, they immediately arrested both Aimee and Khalid and brought them to the station. Three hours later, the female officer returned, her expression clouded with unease.&
“Kelsey, we found the mother Hexseed insect on Aimee’s body. She was indeed the one who placed the Hexseed on you. According to the latest DNA test, the deceased infant was her biological child. Fingerprint analysis also confirmed that Aimee was the one who strangled the baby.”
I was stunned. I couldn’t fathom how someone so heartless could exist, someone who would carry a child into this world only to kill it with her own hands.
