A month later, my divorce from Ethan was
finalized.
Kai helped me; he knew a great lawyer.
When the divorce went through, Ethan
completely broke down right there in court.
Outside the courthouse, he kept slapping his
own face.
“I was wrong! I shouldn’t have done that to
you, Jade! I was so wrong!”

forgive me just this once?”
I walked up to him and said, “Those five years
we were together? You stole them.”
Ever since Kai told me the truth, I couldn’t
stop thinking about what he must have gone
through.
The girl who promised to be with him ended

Leaving the courthouse, I took Kai home to

Kai held my hand tightly.
“I never forgot Jade,” he said.
My heart swelled with emotion.
My mind was filled with everything we’d been
through, everything he’d done.
He held me when I slept, cooked for me.
Thank goodness fate hadn’t kept us apart
forever.

was filled with regret at the end.
He even wrote me a letter.

wrong. I shouldn’t have treated you that way.

But there are no “maybes” in life.
Perhaps this whole soul–swap ordeal was
