“You had someone put moldy food in her meal at the temple and she still beat stomach cancer? Guess the woman’s just too damn lucky,” the cousin sneered,
“Didn’t you used to be clever? You managed to get pregnant with his kids. Use that brain again–maybe drug him one more time?”
Their voices were laced with mockery and the things being said inside that room became more and more vile.
Samuel stood frozen, his fists clenched. Without a word, he signaled to the bodyguards behind him. They burst into the room and soon dragged two naked bodies to the ground. Nell screamed, her voice shrill. “Mr. Stone! Please–I was forced!”
The man beside her spat at her feet. “Forced? You slut! You came on to me! Said you were desperate–said Mr. Stone hadn’t touched you in months!”
He didn’t get to finish the sentence before a guard cracked his leg with a baton.
Nell tried to speak again but was silenced. A cloth pressed over her mouth and nose until she went limp.
Samuel had her committed to a psychiatric hospital under strict watch.
On my wedding day, Samuel stood outside the venue, shouting hoarsely into the crowd. “Ally! You really don’t want me anymore? You really don’t remember me?!”
I had someone deliver a message to him.
“What you did crossed every line I had. Maybe the old me loved you–maybe she would’ve forgiven you. But the woman I am now? She never will.”
Inside, Victor carefully slid the ring onto my finger, hands trembling slightly.
Outside, Samuel dropped to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably. I later heard he never remarried. He raised those two children alone and eventually died in quiet sorrow.
As for Victor and me–despite doctors saying I’d never be able to conceive–I miraculously gave birth to a daughter.

One lazy afternoon, while I played with her on the rug, Victor wrapped his arms around me from behind.
“You really had me going back then,” he whispered into my ear. “Your acting was so good, I almost believed you’d really lost your memory.”
I just smiled, saying nothing, my eyes drifting to the window where Samuel’s shadow no longer lingered.
Our daughter came running toward me with a big smile on her face.
