The next morning, I looked at the closet full of clothes Zachary had given me and smiled wryly. Which one was his favorite? I thought back to his expression every time he gave me a gift, but I couldn’t pick one out. He seemed to only care about whether I liked it or not.
Three hours later, I finally made my choice. A simple, elegant blue off–the–shoulder dress, perfect for pairing with the Heart of the Ocean.
Zachary was planning to pick me up, but I refused. I wanted to go alone and surprise him. I wanted to show him with my actions that I loved his gifts, every single
one of them.

I tried to walk away quickly, but he grabbed my wrist. I instinctively pulled away and looked at him warily. “What are you doing here?”
My reaction stung him. “Sophia, I’ve been looking for you for a long time. I finally found out where you are. Can you forgive me? Give me another chance. It was all my fault before. I listened to Chloe and let her drive a wedge between us.”
“Stop, stop! Hold it. I don’t want to hear your explanations, and I don’t want to see you again. As for the past, it’s in the past. Don’t bother me anymore.”
Damian was unwilling to give up. He took out a gift box from behind his back. It was another piece of jewelry from the same brand as the Heart of the Ocean. It was a high–end luxury item that was a favorite among the upper class.
When I was younger, I used to dream of working hard and one day owning a piece of jewelry like this. In just two days, two men had offered it to me,
Damian got down on one knee with a ring. “Sophia, marry me. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. Please, give me another chance.”
Before I could refuse, Zachary quickly came over and pulled me into his arms, staking his claim. “Mr. Thorne, it’s a bit inappropriate to be poaching on my territory.”
His territory. I nestled against his chest, a smile playing on my lips.
With someone else present, Damian put away the ring and stood up, his eyes full of hostility towards Zachary. “What do you mean, your territory?” Damian’s voice was filled with anger..
“She’s my girlfriend.”
“I’m not. We broke up a long time ago,” I corrected,
Zachary, hearing this, looked at Damian with a smile, naturally noticing the ring in his hand. “An HD ring? Mr. Thorne, I remember you and I were bidding for the Hea- rt of the Ocean at the auction the other day. With your resources, I was sure I couldn’t outbid you. But you gave up at twenty million. Do you prefer this diamond ring?”

Zachary’s words shocked me. Twenty million? This necklace cost twenty million? Zachary was really a spendthrift.
“Are you crazy? Buying such an expensive thing for me.”
Zachary patted my hand reassuringly. “Because you’re worth it.”

At that moment, Damian also saw the necklace around my neck. The Heart of the Ocean. He had originally planned to buy it for me. But twenty million… it wasn’t that he didn’t have it. He just subconsciously felt that I wasn’t worthy of it. Or maybe he thought that the diamond ring would be enough to win my heart back. After all, my biggest wish had been to marry him.
Seeing the scene before him, Damian staggered.
The things he was unwilling to buy for me, someone else would.
He had well and truly lost.
People always fantasize about what they can’t have.
Damian’s voice was choked with emotion. “Sophia, the money… I didn’t deliberately withhold it. It’s just that a long time ago, you said you wanted to marry me, that
you wanted to save up for your own dowry. I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to save it, so I wanted to help you. I never intended to take your money for myself. I
really love you. I’ll give you something even better than the Heart of the Ocean…”
