Chapter 23
Lena stood in the kitchen of her home, taking the cake out of the oven, while Kody skillfully stood by, searing the steak to a perfect medium rare.
Outside the house, Nathan was chatting with Isla. When he heard the noise coming from the kitchen, he got up and walked over.
“Do you need any help? Nathan’s voice came from behind, with a faint smile.”
Since the interview, the two of them officially became a couple. Upon hearing the news, Kody and Isla were also very happy and warmly invited the person who always waited downstairs for their daughter to come over for a meal.
“No, you go take a break, Kody said with a smile.”
After a while, he looked at Nathan’s affectionate gaze towards Lena and smiled helplessly.
“If you want to chat with Lena, just stay here. I won’t disturb you.”
After finishing speaking, he picked up the cooked steak and walked towards the restaurant.
Seeing this, Lena smirked at Nathan.
He leaned against the door frame, the cuffs of his white shirt rolled up to his elbows, revealing his well–defined forearms.
Lena was lost in thought without realizing it, and when she turned her head, her cheeks were burning hot, thinking about how handsome her boyfriend was.

Nathan entered the kitchen and couldn’t help but wrap his arms around
her waist.
“Don’t make a fuss, mom and dad are still outside.”
Nathan, however, did not stop. Instead, he fixed his gaze on her and gently brushed away a touch of flour on her cheek.
“Really confused, didn’t even realize I had flour on my face.”
Lena’s cheeks burned as she elbowed him in the chest.
“What were you guys just talking about? Lena asked, blinking her eyes.”
“Just now, Auntie was telling me about your embarrassing childhood stories. She said you used to bully other kids when you were little, and even wet your pants in kindergarten.”
“Nonsense! Upon hearing this, Lena was so angry that she grabbed the cutlery and hit him, but he just laughed as if he didn’t care.
In the midst of the struggle, Nathan laughed as he caught her wrist, “Just teasing you.”
The two of them locked eyes, with many emotions flickering in their gazes. Nathan silently looked at her and leaned in for a kiss.
The two people in the restaurant saw this scene and both showed a relieved smile.
In the restaurant, the four of them were chatting happily. Kody and Isla also learned that when their daughter first arrived in France, it was this warm–hearted young man in front of them who helped her out of the darkness and welcomed a new life.
“Thank you, Nathan. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know how long Lena would have continued to suffer.”

“There’s nothing, Auntie. Nathan turned to look at Lena and quietly tightened her hand.
“It was because Lena was very kind, she deserved me to do things for her.”
Kody and Isla smiled with relief, feeling confident in entrusting their daughter to him.
Kody took a sip of his wine, about to ask Nathan about the photography exhibition, when the sound of a news broadcast suddenly came from the living room TV, breaking the tranquility.
“The latest news, the president of the Langdon Group, Hunter, was taken away by the police for investigation on suspicion of murdering Eleanor.”
“After confirmation, he admitted to all his crimes.”
Clang!
The knife in Lena’s hand slipped, and the metal cutlery made a loud noise as it hit the tiled floor.
Nathan was startled by the noise and immediately set down his utensils, embracing Lena’s shoulders to comfort her gently.
On the screen, the image of Hunter being handcuffed and escorted into a police car was captured by reporters.
The man who used to be full of spirit, now has bloodshot eyes and a haggard face that is almost unrecognizable.
Işla covered her mouth, her face turning pale. “Oh my god! This isn’t… this isn’t Hunter, is it?”
“If Lena was still in love with him…”
Halfway through the conversation, Isla suddenly got scared and couldn’t

continue speaking.
Lena watched the
feeling her legs go weak. The kindness Hunter
had shown her in the past played out like a slideshow in her mind.
Is the man who caused her unbearable pain at the last moment now a murderer?
Did that Eleanor who tortured her so much really die?
Nathan’s face was complex as he held her cold hand, saying, “It’s okay, I’m right here…”
His warm and dry palm transmitted a comforting temperature.
“I was going to turn off the TV, Kody started to get up, but was stopped by his daughter.”
“Never mind, Dad…”
Lena took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.
“Now that I have come out, I know that he has already faced his final retribution, and that’s enough for me.”

The family watched the news in silence and finished the meal deep in thought.
Night fell, Lena took the initiative to offer to walk Nathan home.
The night wind in Paris kept blowing, Nathan draped his coat over Lena.
Seeing that she was in a bad mood, Nathan embraced her, resting his chin on the top of her head.
“It’s all in the past.”
Lena nodded and nestled lovingly in his arms.

“Just like you said, some people are just passing through my life, but at least now I have met you, and I am content.”
Nathan gently gazed at her and planted a kiss on the top of her head.
“I am also very happy to have met you.”
He recalled their first meeting, filled with unexpected surprises.
Just like they could never guess what would happen in the future.
The sound of a melodious guitar came from the Seine River, as the street performers played. The two of them embraced each other in the night, Lena knew that she was about to embark on a whole new beginning.
