Chapter 2
Remembering the past, Lena felt heartbroken.
Fearing her parents‘ worry, she didn’t tell the truth and said, “I just missed you.”
Hearing her choked voice, Isla guessed what was wrong and sighed.
“Then handle the paperwork first. Once you arrive, you can tell Dad and me what happened. Don’t worry. We’ll always be your support.
Like a weary bird finding a safe nest, Lena’s anxious heart slowly settled.
“Okay, I’ll come find you after I finish the paperwork.”
Before she finished, Hun This book had been added on your bookshelf.
“Lena, where are you going?”
Dressed in a black tailored suit, handsome and noble, he looked just like the man who once only had eyes for her, but only Lena knew where he had just come from.
She hung up and said, “Nothing, just meeting a friend for dinner.”
Hunter didn’t question it and instinctively hugged her.
“Lena, I’m so sorry. Something came up at work today, so I missed our anniversary. I promise I’ll make it up to you next time, okay?”
Lena didn’t reply. She pulled away from his arms. “You smell like a perfume I don’t like.”
Hunter was taken aback. “I’ll take a shower right now.”

After he left, Lena picked up his phone from the table and opened WhatsApp.
Before, she was the only one pinned at the top. Now, there was someone new–Eleanor.
She opened the chat and saw their messages.
Hunter wrote, “You’ll live in that apartment from now on. Tell me if you need anything. I’ll tell everyone you’re my new assistant. Don’t let anyone know about us, especially Lena.”
Eleanor replied, “Hunter, I’m so happy you crashed my wedding today. I’ll behave and listen to you. As long as I stay by your side, even being your secret lover forever is fine.”
Hunter texted, “Eleanor, remember, you lied when you said we were dating. From that moment, you belong to me. Who allowed you to marry another man? Don’t let something like today happen again.
The more Lena read, the more her hand shook.
“How ridiculous,” she thought.
He wanted a lifetime with her but couldn’t let go of Eleanor, wanting to have the best of both worlds.
But the love she wanted couldn’t accommodate a third party.
The sound of water in the bathroom grew quieter, and his phone vibrated again. It was another message from Eleanor.
The message read, “Hunter, I keep hearing footsteps outside. I’m scared. Can you come and keep me company?”
After reading the message, Lena put the phone down and closed her eyes.
Soon, Hunter came out with wet hair, phone in hand, trying to soothe her.

“I… have something urgent to deal with. Lena, get some rest. Next time, I’ll make it all up to you.”
Lena didn’t call out his lie. She quietly watched him change, grab his keys, and rush out.
The room fell silent again.
She sat alone until after midnight before finally going to bed.
And so, her last anniversary with Hunter ended in this messy way.
That night, Lena had many nightmares and woke up at dawn.
She got up, washed, ate a bit of breakfast, and then took all her documents to start the immigration process, applying for expedited

The staff told her it could be approved in as fast as two weeks.
She checked the date and booked a flight to France for 15 days later.
