I’d been in this world for over two months.
From what i could gather, Reik’s love for his late wife was indeed profound. It was no wonder so many candidates before me had failed. My own progress was nonexistent.
The phantom text, perhaps having seen through my incompetence, had mostly stopped bothering to mock me.
My very existence felt like a disruption to the memory of Reik and his wife.
I had no past, and it seemed I had no future.
Should I even continue with this hopeless mission?
I was lost in thought, my head down. The stack of books in my arms was too thick, obscuring my view. I didn’t notice that the edge of the books had bumped into a beautiful woman in a white power suit, holding a cup of coffee.
Most of the coffee spilled onto the books, and a good portion splashed onto the pristine white fabric of her suit.
I hurriedly tried to wipe the books, apologizing profusely
The woman’s voice was sharp. She grabbed my arm, her brow furrowed. “Who let you in here?”
I explained that I was from the bookstore downstairs.
She sneered “I haven’t heard of anyone in this company having any kind of partnership with some dingy little bookstore.”
