Chapter 12
After sending the guests away, Mr. and Mrs. Ellery made several calls to figure out what had happened
After they finally learned Sylvia had ran away, causing this entire embarrassing scene, their faces immediately tightened with anger.
“Always the troublemaker. Even with her own wedding perfectly arranged, she still manages to turn it into a disaster. She has absolutely disgraced the Ellery name.”
Mr. Ellery’s face darkened with fury, but his wife’s thoughts went a step further. Glancing at Tiffany, who stood beside them with an apparently clueless expression, she felt a sudden pang of concern.
“Sylvia and Edwin were getting along so well. For her to suddenly run off… and Matt didn’t show up today either. You don’t think she regretted giving up Matt and went running back to him, do you?”
What started as an offhand comment quickly seemed more plausible to everyone present. Their expressions changed as they hurriedly headed to the Kingsley residence.
People often find unexpected common ground in the wrong situations–everyone involved somehow assumed Sylvia had fled the wedding to pasue Matt. Fortunately, Matt wasn’t at home, sparing them all from an awkward confrontation.
Matt himself had no idea what was happening.
All he knew was that today Sylvia was marrying someone else, and it left him feeling utterly miserable. Especially after learning she was fully aware of Edwin’s true motives yet still chose to marry him anyway. This knowledge only made him feel worse, sending him to his family’s private club to drown his sorrows.
Once in a private room, he ordered a table full of alcohol and proceeded to drink himself into oblivion.
He just couldn’t bear to attend her wedding, couldn’t stand to watch her walk down the aisle toward someone else, saying “I do” to another man.
In his drunken haze, he was startled by Edwin’s call asking where he was.
His mind foggy, couldn’t understand why someone who should be getting married right now would be calling him. His instincts kicked in, the address flew out of his mouth.
He was about to ask before the call abruptly ended.
It disconnected so quickly that Matt, in his addled state, wondered if he’d imagined the whole exchange.
Picking up his glass again, he filled it to the brim and downed it in one go.
With each drink, the idea of breaking off his engagement with Tiffany grew more appealing. He stared intently at his phone on the table as a voice in his head urged him to pick it up.
Just as he was about to dial Mr. and Mrs. Ellery, the door to the private room was violently kicked open.
Harsh light spilled into the dimly lit private room through the open door.
If not for the empty bottles scattered across the floor and Matt sitting motionless on the couch with his phone, Edwin might have thought he had the wrong place.
He frowned and flipped on all the lights in the room. The sudden brightness made Matt instinctively shield his eyes.
But before his hand even reached his face, Edwin had already rushed over to him. “Where’s Sylvia?! Has she come looking for you?!”
Hearing Sylvia’s name jolted Matt into momentary sobriety. Looking at Edwin’s furious expression, he suddenly smiled. “Isn’t Sylvia at your wedding right now? Why are you here looking for me instead of getting married?”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Matt seemed to suddenly grasp their implication. He shot to his feet, his eyes wide with shock
“What are you saying!?”
Seeing that Matt genuinely had no idea what was happening, the anger drained from Edwin’s face, leaving only confusion.

Chapter 12
Though Sylvia had grown up in Washington, her withdrawn, time and insecure nature meant she had few friends. She hadn’t come to Mart. At the Ellery family certainly wouldn’t help her escape the wedding.
Then where could she have gone?
“Sylvia… she disappeared… hurned our wedding dress and rings… No one knows where she went….”
Edwin collapsed onto the couch, his eyes staring blankly ahead.
Matt’s first reaction was disbelief. After all, even he had told Sylvia about Edwin’s true feelings, she hadn’t shown any intention of leaving
But as this thought crossed his mind, a sudden realization lit up his eyes.
So it wasn’t that she didn’t care who Edwin really loved–she just knew she was leaving all along?!
