Chapter 2
Livia’s return from years abroad was precipitated by a breakup with her long-time boyfriend.
Years ago, she had defied her parents for Antonio, but their vast class difference had ended the relationship.
Needing household essentials, Antonio enlisted Grace’s help.
Grace didn’t want to go, but she couldn’t refuse given her pending resignation.
During the shopping trip, Antonio repeated reminded Grace not to let Livia overexert herself.
Shopping finished, a weary Grace followed the two, listening to their reminisce about old times.
“Antonio, do you remember flowers from Lumoria?”
Grace had also received flowers, and she had been thrilled for ages.
Now she knew that they were for Livia.
“And the dessert shop. I wonder if it’s still around.”
“It hasn’t closed down,” Grace answered inwardly.
Two months ago, Antonio had taken Gracee there.
The black forest cakes were delicious, and he always ordered two servings.
Presumably, that was because Livia liked them.
The three walked slowly, their conversation painting a clear memory.
All the attention and pampering Antonio had shown on Gracee were echoes of his devotion to Livia.
Grace, suppressing her emotions, focused on the task at hand.
Half a day later, the apartment was tidied up.
Livia, impressed by Grace’s efficiency, asked Antonio. “Who is this lady?”
Antonio replied, “Oh, this is Grace Parrish.
“Her mom had worked for us for years. A few years ago, she passed away. Grace stayed on and works as my assis-
tant.”
“How nice your family is.” Livia draped her arm over Antonio’ shoulder.
Then she noticed Grace’s ring. She asked, “That’s valuable. Antonio pays you well.”

She’d assumed it was costume jewelry.
Turned out it was very expensive?
Antonio’s brow furrowed as he saw the ring.
However, Livia smiled. “The ring is beautiful, but it’s on the wrong finger. That’s only for wedding rings.”
Grace responded, “No mistake, this is my wedding ring.”
“You’re already married?” Livia’s face showed surprise.
Grace nodded. “Yes, just a couple of days ago.”
Antonio’s face darkened.
He stared at Grace, silent.
