Chapter 4
“Sienna! Where are you going?!”
“Sienna!”
Ryder’s
frantic voice echoed as he called my name.
The wind from the helicopter blades whipped fiercely across the grass as I leaned forward, looking down at the ground.
He was running like a man possessed, trying to catch up with the helicopter as it ascended, stumbling and falling in his desperation.
His Beta and other pack warriors rushed to help him up, but he violently pulled away, like a wild wolf out of control, stubbornly chasing
after the helicopter.
I had never seen
m lose control like this for me.
But that’s not right-
In the first five years of
relationship, he did care for me.
That year when I got injured during training and ended up in the hospital, he held me in his arms, crying out in desperation.
Then, when the rogue war broke out, I spent sleepless nights drafting battle tactics for him, only to faint from exhaustion. He carried me into the pack’s medical room, trembling and weak, staying by my bedside the entire night.
But when did he start pushing me out of his life?
– It seemed to have started that night on Kendra’s eighteenth birthday when she drunkenly kissed him.
That night, he didn’t come home.
Since then, they became closer and closer, and I, I became nothing more than an afterthought in his life.
At the start of our relationship, he had promised me countless times in whispers: “Sienna, you are the mate that the Moon Goddess gave me, the luckiest thing in my life. I want you to be my Luna. As long as I can be with you, nothing else matters.”
But after I discovered what happened with Kendra that night, he never truly made a choice.
I spent five years asking him for one thing: to keep boundaries with Kendra.
But he could never do it.
Was it because he had grown tired of being with me for so long?
Or was it because, like every man, he couldn’t resist the pheromones of a young she wolf?
Or maybe after that kiss, he realized that what he truly wanted was her?
These questions tortured me night after night, but I
Beep beep beep-
The phone vibrated, breaking my thoughts./
Could never find the answer.
It was Ryder calling, his voice tinged with an unfamiliar panic.
“Sienna, where are you going?”
“What does it matter to you?”
Hearing his voice, all I felt was disgust, and even my wolf let out a disdainful growl.
“Of course it matters! Today’s our mating ceremony, have you forgotten?”
“I haven’t forgotten,” I scoffed. “I’m doing this on purpose. You’ve stood me up so many times, so I’m missing just one ceremony, is
that not allowed?”
For a moment, he was speechless, as if he wanted to explode with anger but was forcing it down.
“Before the ceremony, I was focused on helping Kendra fulfill her wish. I admit, I didn’t pay attention to you. I was wrong. It’s not too late now. My parents, the entire pack, are waiting to witness us sealing the bond.”
“Then let Kendra wear the wedding dress and complete the ceremony with you,” I said softly.
“What the hell are you saying? She’s my niece! We’re just close, we grew up together, you know that—”
Even now, he was still using this excuse to cover up.
But who kisses their “niece” on the lips?
Who lies half–naked with their “niece” in the wedding room, holding her so tightly?
Who spends every day cuddling with their “niece,” forgetting their own mate?
I had a whole arsenal of things to retort with, but we’d argued so many times before, I was too tired to keep fighting.
I hung up the phone and turned it off.
I thought everything was finally over.
But suddenly, the pilot turned to me, his face tense.
“There’s another helicopter coming up behind us!”
The roar of the engines grew louder.
I turned my head and saw Ryder piloting a helicopter, flying alongside us.
“Sienna! Come back to the pack! Stop making a scene! My patience is running out!” His angry shout came through the intercom, vibrating my eardrums.
I didn’t blame him for being so angry.
Over the years, no matter how embarrassed or wronged I felt, I never caused a scene in front of others.
He never imagined I would tear apart the “perfect image” he had so carefully built on the day of the mating ceremony.
One of the staff members sitting in the front row turned to me.
“Ms. Vance, do you need to negotiate with this Alpha?”
“No need. Just follow your rules,” I said calmly, my eyes cold as ice.
There was nothing left to discuss between Ryder and me.
The staff member nodded, immediately broadcasting a warning over the loudspeaker:
“Warning, first notice! Unauthorized personnel, please stay away from The Royals‘ exclusive helicopter!”
Ryder paid no attention.
“I admit, I messed up by not going to the hospital when you almost died. I promise, next time you’re hospitalized, I’ll be there the moment it happens…”
The staff member shot me a sympathetic glance:
Warning, second notice! Please leave the flight path immediately!”
‘Sienna!” He roared, “I know, I’ve failed to show up for the bond–sealing deal a few times, I’m an asshole. But after the ceremony, we’ll sign it, okay?”
Chapter 4
For him, this was the most he could give.
He thought I was still the same Sienna, the one who would forgive him and put up with all his behavior.
But I no longer had any interest in even saying one more word.
The third warning blared.
In the sky, two military helicopters roared in, directly blocking Ryder’s flight path.
Infrared targeting systems locked onto his forehead, throat, and heart.
The moment he made a move-
The sniper would end him in midair.
