Chapter 6
Harriet’s face turned pale at my words. She knew exactly what I was hinting at and panic flashed in her eyes. After all, she was well aware of her true origins. She was terrified at the thought of this secret being exposed, especially in front of my biological parents.
As I moved closer to Harriet, Franklin exploded with anger. He stormed toward me and slapped me across the face.
“Kelly, I warned you before the wedding–don’t make trouble for me!” he bellowed. “But today, you’ve crossed the line! Let me make one thing clear–you won’t be able to handle the consequences of what you’ve done today!“}
His face twisted in rage and his teeth clenched as he glared at me. But his fury only amused me.”
I couldn’t help but smirk at him. Once, I had loved Franklin deeply. I had even dreamed of becoming his wife. But the day he chose Harriet over me for the sake of his family–and insulted me as shameless and unworthy–was the day my love for him died completely.
I looked at him coldly, my voice calm but cutting as I addressed the room. “I remember when you gathered your friends, filled an entire room with balloons and knelt on one knee with flowers in your hand, begging me to be your girlfriend.“”
“Why? Have you forgotten all about that?” I said it deliberately, without an ounce of mercy. I wanted to shatter the illusion he’d built for himself.”
Sure enough, gasps of shock rippled through the crowd.”
“No way! The groom actually chased after her? Is he blind?“”
“How could the eldest young master of the Morris Family have been interested in someone like her? This is insane!”
“Maybe he was desperate back then. There’s no other explanation for him liking that woman.”
Franklin’s face turned as red as a tomato. Humiliation washed over him as he clenched his fists, clearly wanting to vanish into
thin air.”
“K… Kelly, stop making things up! I never liked you!” he stammered, his voice shaking with anger and embarrassment.”
I laughed a sharp, mocking sound.
