“Jason, what happened to my sister? What
happened to her?! Tell me!”
Jason’s hand trembled as he reached out to
touch my face. His voice choked, unable to
form a single word.
“Sarah… Sister…”
Chad was frozen in place. When he finally
snapped out of it, he stumbled over and knelt
on the floor, staring blankly at me.
“Sister, you’re just scaring me, right? How
could you die? How could you? You promised
we’d go back to that mountain! You can’t break
<
your promise! Wake up! Wake up!”
Amber stood there, lost. She tried calling
Jason’s name, but he only had eyes for me,
ignoring her completely.
Jason snatched my body from Ethan’s arms
and walked out, step by step.
“I’m taking my sister home.”
[Am I the only one who thinks sis had it really
rough? Even if the three guys loved her, the
pain they caused was real.]
[I agree. Their apologies came way too late.]
[Seriously? The male leads love her this much,
what more do you want?]
I watched their actions with cold detachment.
Then, I heard the system’s voice.
[Host’s death has been detected. Proceed with
transfer to original world?]
“No. There’s one more thing, I want them to
know the truth about their so–called ‘life–saving
grace‘.”
I wanted them to know just how ridiculous their
actions over the past three years had been.
Jason placed me on the bed at home. My old
room had long since become a storage closet,
so he had to put me in his own room.
He held my hand, murmuring to himself.
On the nightstand was the sheet music I had
pieced together for him, preciously framed.
But what did that matter now? Love that can’t
be seen isn’t love at all.
[I can’t imagine how shattered he is inside.]
<
[Wait, didn’t he bring this on himself? He was
one of the ones who bullied sis, right?]
[I agree. Stop acting so in love. No one has the right to forgive him on Sarah’s behalf.]
Jason pressed his forehead against my hand,
his expression deep and reverent.
“Sister, do you know? When I was a kid and
wanted to learn piano, no one supported me.
They all laughed at me. Only you… you fought
with everyone for me. Your eyes must have hurt
so much during those three nights you spent
piecing this music together.”
“We were supposed to go back to how things
were after I repaid the debt. Why did you have
to go? Why did you leave me? It was my fault, I
ruined you… but how could you punish me by
dying? Please, just open your eyes. I was
wrong, I was so, so wrong.”
<
“I never forgot my promise. I promised I would
always be your brother, that I would make you
the happiest person in the world. So please…
just open your eyes, okay?”
My corpse gave no response, but Jason
continued talking to me with a smile, as if he
hadn’t noticed.
He stayed like that for four hours. Suddenly, the
bedroom door was slammed open.
It was Ethan. Not even a full day had passed,
but he looked like a wreck, a far cry from the
polished, handsome man he once was.
“What are you doing here?”
Jason stood up, blocking my body from view.
Ethan stared at me. “I’m here to take my
fiancée home.”
<
Jason sneered. “Don’t you have Amber now?
Go ahead and marry her. From now on, you
have nothing to do with Sarah!”
Ethan lunged forward, grabbing Jason by the
collar.
“You were the one who said we had to repay
Amber for saving our lives! That we had to go
along with everything she wanted until it was
over, and then things could go back to normal!
But look now! You killed my Sarah! You’re the
one who should be dead! Give Sarah back to
me!”
They started fighting in the small room,
throwing savage punches, not caring if they
killed each other.
“You’re the one who hurt Sarah the most! Don’t
you dare act all devoted now! She wasn’t
married to you. I’m her brother. She should stay
with me!”
