Chapter 40 Raised Yourself a Wife
“You’d better be telling the truth,” Hubert said with a sideways glance.

Douglas had been a good friend for years. Hubert had been back for a while now, but he always turned down Douglas’s invites to game nights.
Today, though, Douglas showed up at Hubert’s office without warning, and somehow, they ended up going to watch the match together.
Douglas scowled quietly but kept stealing looks at Hubert.
Something feels off. Actually, it’s more than off. Hubert’s acting really weird!
Since returning from overseas, no one knows what he’s been up to. We’ve been asking him out for drinks, but he always said no, saying he just wanted to go home.
If it weren’t for knowing Wylie’s still living at Crestmere Estate, I might’ve thought Hubert had been hiding some secret girlfriend there.
And
now, of all things, he’s here to watch an esports tournament? The guy probably doesn’t even know the name of the game.
Douglas was determined to figure out what Hubert was really up to.
More fans streamed into the arena. Anexis supporters took up most of the seats, waving bright signs that spilled over into what should have been GOD’s section.
Soon, both teams appeared on stage. As the defending champs from the winner’s bracket, GOD entered first, following tradition.
“That girl must be Phoenix, right? She looks even better in person than on the poster. What a waste…”
The ones who heard that comment couldn’t help but wonder, A waste of what?
The person who spoke let out a deep sigh, heavy with mockery.
Among the crowd, signs lit up with harsh words like “Phoenix, get out of GOD.”
“They kicked Petal out and had some random woman play instead? Guess I’m just here to watch my team lose today!”
Besides Wylie, Petal was one of GOD’s top players. The fans had a lot to say about the player change in the finals.
“Ceberus has gotta be crazy letting Phoenix on the team.”
“God knows whether she has what it takes.”
Some fans tried to stay positive, shouting, “No matter what, we have to bring home the trophy!”
The crowd grumbled, and online, the chat exploded with insults, dragging down Azalea and her family.
Since GOD’s official X account announced the lineup, the hate hadn’t stopped.
Azalea heard every insult thrown from the stands. Her face stayed calm, expression steady. Getting called a noob was just part. of esports. She didn’t blame the haters; it was normal. Nobody wanted their team weighed down by some unknown player in the finals.
Soon Anexis’s five players came out. The only change: Petal replaced Sydney as mid–laner.
Sydney was listed as a substitute, so she didn’t appear in the opening lineup.
Anexis fans cheered loudly when Petal stepped on stage.
“In the semis, Anexis lost because the mid–laner couldn’t stand up to GOD. Now GOD is practically shooting themselves in the foot and handing us the trophy!”

“Send that bird back to her mama!”
Anexis’s energy surged.
Down below, Bastian and Matthias, who came to watch Sydney’s match, both glanced at Azalea.
Matthias gave Bastian a hard look. “So you’re backing her, huh? What a good sister she is; she’d rather play for your rivals than help you.”
Bastian smiled bitterly. Unlike the others, he knew Azalea was skilled.
But she had never told him she was good at gaming.
Matthias’s words hit hard. Is Azalea really trying to get involved in esports? If so, why didn’t she come to me?
She’d rather join the enemy than help me?
“If she’s happy, that’s what counts. I’ve failed her. If they lose, I’ll convince her to join us again, and I’ll put her in the starting lineup.”
Matthias sneered. “What? Even Sydney’s just your substitute, and you want Azalea to be in the starting lineup? You’re nuts!
“Are you stupid? You must think she’s some innocent flower who needs pity. She’s got plenty of tricks up her sleeve!” Matthias laid out all his suspicions.
His look at Azalea was full of disgust now. “She’s pretending to be noble, turning you and Cassius down, but she keeps pestering Sydney and annoying us.”
Bastian frowned. From what he knew, Azalea joined the team before Sydney.
If anything, Sydney was the one stirring trouble with Azalea.
“Azalea playing against Sydney today is just a coincidence.”
“Coincidence? You mean Azalea doesn’t even know Anexis is your team?” Matthias sneered.
“I’ve been too busy to watch her. But now I caught her. After the match, I’ll teach her a lesson!”
Bastian looked at him cautiously. “What are you planning?”
“That’s none of your business.”
Douglas kept staring at the girl on stage, growing more confused. Why does she look so familiar?
He tilted his head, doubtful. “Isn’t she the girl you used to sponsor at the orphanage?
“Well done, Hubert. You actually went and raised yourself a wife! She’s found her birth family, and you’re still sneaking around watching her.”
