Chapter 32 Give Her Something Sweet

Hubert’s voice stayed casual, but what he said carried weight. He respected Azalea’s decisions, but he wasn’t about to let anyone mess with her while he was around.
That was real respect.
Azalea returned a sincere smile.
Cassius briefly closed his eyes. When he looked up again, his stare was firm. He didn’t think Azalea would truly walk away from her family. Now that the worst had passed and he’d reached out, he believed she’d return.
Tm sorry, Azalea. I made mistakes,” he said, stretching his hand out to her. “Come home with me.” Ilis voice was filled with
confidence.
Azalea looked confused. What made Cassius so sure she’d pick them over everything else?
Without even looking at him, she stepped right over to stand beside Hubert. “I’d have to be insane to go back.”
Hubert smiled softly.
Wesley scowled and looked like he was about to start yelling again.
But Hubert spoke first, calm but sharp. “If Mr. Wesley doesn’t know how to talk with respect, then maybe he shouldn’t talk at
all
Wesley shut up instantly.
Cassius couldn’t believe it. He had apologized, yet Azalea still chose Hubert–a guy she barely knew!
It was like Azalea could read his thoughts. “You call him a stranger, but at least he listens and respects me. He treats me like a human being.”
Back at the Larks‘ residence, she was never treated that way. They called her when they needed her, and pushed her aside when they didn’t–like she was nothing more than a pet.
Cassius felt like he’d been hit in the chest. It hit him hard–he had never once asked Azalea what she wanted. Every choice had been his, not hers.
The light in Hubert’s eyes vanished, replaced by something much colder. What had the Larks done to her?
If Azalea didn’t handle it, then he definitely would.
His voice turned cold.“Ace, Deuce, please show them out.”
Inside the car, Wesley was still fuming. “Ungrateful brat. She found someone powerful, and now she thinks she can do whatever she wants.”
Cassius wasn’t any happier. With Hubert backing her, they couldn’t touch Azalea now.
Wesley scoffed. “Honestly, maybe William was right. Besides her looks, what does she have that would make someone like Hubert care?”
Cassius frowned. He didn’t like hearing that, but he couldn’t deny it either. The same thought had crossed his mind.
Hubert wasn’t known for charity work. Nobody in Draywick would believe he’d help a random girl for no reason.
The way Azalea treated him had Wesley fuming. After three years of raising her in the Larks, this is how she turned out?
Now she had the nerve to talk back?
This just proves that raising your own kid nearby really pays off. Giving the inheritance to Sydney was the smartest move. If Azalea had gotten it, she probably would’ve turned out to be an ungrateful brat.

“But I’ll give her credit.” Wesley said “Getting someone like Hubert on her side takes brains” Right then, Cassius figured out what his father was planning,
Three years ago. Hubert unexpectedly went overseas to grow his business. Not only did this move cause no harm to the Lennox, it actually helped him expand his business empire.
Now that he was back and planning to stay, everyone in Draywick wanted a piece of his success.
If Azalea came back and convinced Hubert to help the Larks, their status in Draywick would skyrocket.
The priority now is getting Azalea to return.” Cassius said, rubbing his forehead. He never expected Azalea to become this difficult
Wesley shrugged. “It’s not that hard. Just do what we used to do. She always listened before.”
Back then, Azalea followed every order without hesitation. Honestly, if they’d told her to disappear, she probably would’ve.
Cassius let out a bitter laugh. “Dad, do you still think she’s the same girl we used to control?”
This question caught Wesley off guard. He started to answer, but after thinking about how Azalea had acted towards them and what she’d done lately, he held back and said nothing.
He couldn’t ignore how much Azalea had changed.
“She used to go along with everything because she cared. She thought this family mattered. She let us make her choices, even yelled at her—and still, she stayed. But now? We probably don’t mean anything to her anymore, Cassius said, finally facing
the truth.
It hurt to admit, but it was clear.
Wesley rolled his eyes. “She’s just being dramatic. Do you think she’s really going to leave us for good? We just need to give her something sweet after all the beatings. Works every time.”
To him, Azalea didn’t have the courage to cut them off completely.
Cassius couldn’t bring himself to believe that Azalea might cut ties with them for good.
He nodded slightly. “You’re right, Dad Azalea’s just lashing out because Hubert’s backing her now, and she finally feels like someone’s on her side. I’ll handle William, have him apologize to her in person, and smooth things over so she’ll come back”
