Chapter 10
Asher was dressed formally today, in a sharp suit.
The same style of clothing on Damon gave off an air of elite efficiency and sharpness, but on Asher, the stiffness and sharpness quietly faded away, making him appear unexpectedly approachable.
We had eaten at this high–class restaurant many times, but this time, something felt different.
Asher handed me the plate with the sliced steak.
“Elena, try it. I made the steak today.”
I was a bit surprised. Why did Asher decide to cook all of a sudden?
“It’s rich without being greasy, and the doneness is just right. It’s delicious.”
Asher folded his hands on the table, nervously watching me as I finished eating.
It was only then that I realized the restaurant was unusually empty.
I thought about it for a moment, and then I understood what he was doing.
At that moment, the waiter wheeled over a cart.
On top of it was a small two–tier Black Forest cake, looking similar to a regular cake but with a variety of fruits inside, all of which I loved.
“You made the cake too, didn’t you?“”
Asher smiled and nodded.
Seeing the admiring glances from the waiter, I felt a bit embarrassed.
This was the second year Asher had celebrated my birthday.
Back in the newmoon pack, every year on my birthday, Damon would just show up, hand me a gift, and leave. The jewelry he gave was always those tacky, mainstream pieces I hated the most.
I wasn’t surprised when I found the ring in the strawberries.
It was a platinum ring I liked, with a simple yet elegant design, entirely to my taste.

- me.
Sure enough, you could tell the difference between a man’s thoughtfulness and indifference right away.
“Elena, I’ve liked you for a long time–longer than you’ve liked Damon.”
Asher knelt on one knee, his eyes filled with sincerity.
He had fallen for me at a mate gathering, back when my mate was still Damon.
I had once written down my dream of becoming a wedding dress designer beneath the Moon Tree, and after I returned to the pack, Asher opened a bridal shop in Azurith.
Thankfully, the Moon Goddess had watched over his unchanging heart, and he had finally waited for me. mate bond, Asher turned out to be my second chance mate.
Before I could speak, Damon stormed in with several warriors, interrupting the proposal.

He forcefully lifted me over his shoulder and took me back to the hotel where he was staying.
He threw me onto the bed, and as I tried to rise, he climbed on top of me.

His eyes were filled with frustration and hurt.
“Elena, if I hadn’t shown up, would you have accepted his proposal?”
“So what if I did? What does it matter to you? He’s my second mate, you’re just a stranger, no one!”
I revealed the thoughts I had kept hidden, completely enraging Damon.
He smiled, but it was a twisted expression.
“Well done, you, Elena, if I can’t control you, then let the child do it!”
A wave of fear washed over me, and I curled up in the corner.
Damon grabbed my ankle and dragged me back toward him.
