Chapter 10
Even after Xavier came back, he still refused to sign the divorce papers.
So Samantha made herself at home in the private lounge adjoining his office.
When she got hungry, she ate his food.
When she was tired, she crashed on his bed.
And in between, she sent me regular updates like she was my own private informant.
“Guess what? The police showed up at Ford International today. I can’t believe you got played, Avery. That little fox’s cousin is behind bars now. Unfortunately, she managed to slip away.”
She added with a smirk, “Turns out that Chanel dress was her way of testing Xavier’s bottom line.
From the start, Xavier had subtly pulled strings to get Sophie hired, despite her being unremarkable in both credentials and performance.
Sophie had fallen for Xavier the moment she saw him–hooked, obsessed, and completely convinced he was her fate.
For the first six months, she actually behaved. Diligent, cautious, playing the perfect assistant.
She’d heard rumors. Xavier was a different man at work. Cold. Demanding. Zero tolerance for mistakes.
He’d demote employees over a missed slide in a presentation or a typo in a brief.
But the first time she spilled tea on his documents? Or messed up his meeting deck?
didn’t yell. Didn’t scold.
Instead, he smiled softly–and told her to be careful next time
Then she met me. The actual Mrs. Ford
And suddenly, everything made sense.
That’s when her resentment kicked in.
Later, her bleach–blond cousin–drowning in gambling debt–came crawling to her for help.
Once he learned Xavier’s status, he encouraged her to seduce him, promising they’d both be rich for life.
Sophie, convinced Xavier had feelings for her, used the Chanel dress as bait.
And the fact that he let her try it on? Gave her hope.
The night of the corporate gala, she used that same dress as an excuse to steal him away from me once more.
But all Xavier did was return it on her behalf.
And while he was at it, he ordered me two new runway exclusives from the next season’s line.
Her spark of hope was instantly snuffed out.
That’s when she knew–If she wanted Xavier to truly resent me, she’d have to push further.
So the next day, her cousin staged that little “accident.”
He bumped into me. Fell to his knees. Begged for forgiveness while pretending to wipe off my coat.
He was desperate. He needed the money now.
At the hotel on Xavier’s business trip, the two of them drugged him, hoping to trap him and force him into something he’d never agree
to sober.

They thought they could fake intimacy, fabricate a scandal–and force me to back down.
But Xavier, even barely conscious, pushed Sophie away.
So her cousin turned to the next move–doctored photos and Al–generated video–to push me over the edge.
To make me walk away first.
That’s why S
Sophie acted so innocent when I confronted Xavier with the photos. It was part of the setup all along
Thankfully, Xavier didn’t buy it. He pushed for the truth.
Sophie’s cousin was arrested on multiple charges: gambling fraud, blackmail, thett, and endangerment.
But Sophie? Still missing
And when I heard it all, I couldn’t help but think-
If Xavier had just stayed the man he used to be…
Untouchable. Unshakable.
No one could’ve touched us.
