The child’s laughter, as sweet and clear as the sound of a bell, had the power to wash away all the sorrow that had accumulated in Kendrick’s heart.
Kendrick bent down and scooped the child into his arms, his voice hoarse as though it came from deep within him. “Raclynn, thank you for making my life whole.”
“Their father is still in prison, living a tough life. How is that whole?”
Raclynn wiped the tear from her eye, furrowing her brows as she stared at the man. “Kendrick, you should agree to accept Alberto’s help. Once you leave, we will forgive all your past grudges.
After everything they had been through, nothing was more important than living in the present, cherishing every moment.
Kendrick leaned slightly forward, his lips brushing Raelynn’s forehead. He spoke slowly, each word filled with deep emotion. “Raelynn, I will get out. But you have to promise me something. Don’t be reckless, and don’t act impulsively.
“Especially, don’t go finding a new father for my children.
“You have to wait for me. Five years will pass quickly. Once I’ve served my time, I’ll have truly atoned for my wrongs.”

“Do you understand that by staying here, you’re missing the most precious years of our children’s childhood?
“They were born without a father. Now that they finally have one, do you want them to grow up without a father’s love?”
